RE: wild hare, LR-1 pylon racer
Hey all,
Been watching this forum for awhile and think I want one. I currently run a GP Viper and a Scat Cat w/ TT Pro .46 and Jett mufflers. My Viper was clocked at 122 which isn't really that fast, but she do turn good! Does anyone have a good speed number for the LR-1/SJ 35 combo? I need something faster now as the "Jones'" at the club are starting to catch up, and I really like the looks of the LR-1. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Crasharama - A$259 at Col Taylor Models (www.coltaylormodels.com). About the same at www.rojshobbies.com
FLY V/STOL - Speed (radar gun readings) for OS 32 SX with stock muffler - 190 km/hr level flight, 205 in slight dive, 238 in big dive from 250 - 300 metres. Do not have speed readings yet with Nelson muffler, but have it set up for a Eagle Tree Flight Data Recorder. For comparison - Q500 with TT Pro 46 on (FAI fuel) 205 km/hr in level flight and 260 in dive from 300 metres.

65010 - Thanks for the speed gouge! Im running a OS .40FP now since I had it laying around. Hopefully as fast as the .32 but we will see.
Can anyone give me the recommended control throws for Low and High rates? I saw the CG gouge posted earlier, but since I have no instructions I would like to see what worked for everyone. Thanks

Here are my settings. I like using dual rates so I have a little more control on take off and landing if needed.
These are measured at the widest part of the control surface.
Low Rate
Rudder = 1/2 inch from neutral
Elevator = 3/16 inch from neutral (I think I may have tweaked this down just a smidgen. Might be closer to 5/32 inch.)
Ailerons = 5/32 inch from neutral
High Rate
Rudder = same as low
Elevator = 5/16 inch from neutral
Ailerons = 7/32 inch from neutral
When I calculated the Mean Aerodynamic Chord, I came out with a safe range of 2-3/8 inches to 3 inches from the leading edge at wing center figuring with 25% - 33%.
I have mine at 2-1/2 inches and it seems perfect to me there.

Have an Eagle Tree FDR installed now...
Got 215 - 225 km/hr (135 - 140 mph) in level flight.
The Nelson muffler added 25 - 35 km/hr over the stock muffler.
240 km/hr (150 mph) in a dive.

Put a few more flights on this weekend...
Attached FDR chart shows 6 flights - each flight consisted of 15 to 20 laps around a FAI pylon course, followed by a dive or two.
Max speed in a dive from 320 metres... was 262 km/hr (163 mph).

How does the GMS .32 compare to the OS .32? The GMS is half the price of the OS and I would like to do this thing as cheaply as possible but still get good speed.

I used mini's - Futaba 3102's (metal gears) on elevator and rudder and 3101's on each aileron and the throttle.
Has plenty of room for a 6 oz tank.

xandips, check with Wildhare RC to see if they have any in stock.

I'm using Hitec HS-85MG for flight surfaces and a HS-81 for throttle.
Also using a 8oz bubbleless tank with my Sport Jett 50. This is a wicked combo. Speed is probably just under the full on Nelson/Jett racing planes.
