Is this a cheap way of getting hits on his site or what! I came over he from the boat forum to check around here and I find some guy wasting my time having me search thought his site for nothing. Oh well, jokes on me, I should have known better!

LOL, 600 MPH you got to be Dreaming..............
"FASTEST FLYER ON THE FIELD IN THE UAE". Owns a PYLON....with a NELSON Q40 doing 25000+ RPM. Must be doing around 200 MPH as most of the ppl claim these Pylons to do........cant measure it though coz NO ONE HAS A GUN !! except for the cops coz its banned for the local public (point 2 b noted)!! in the UAE. Pictures of the pylon.
http://www.uaerc.com/competition.htm
THE MISTAKE OF THE POST - "600 MPH"..if u used "600 kph" it might have been a bit thinkable !! lol.... but not with a whiplash ......plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
talk about ReAPeR or a SUPER REAPER !I remember someone flew it at 540 Kph, read it somewhere long ago on RCU in the JETS section.
SAD....... :stupid:

the 600MPH Whiplash really did fly that fast. The turbine was rubber banded down and allowed for a bungee action therefore throwing the plane forward into the future.

Oh and by the way... nitrous oxide is NOT fuel...it just provides an oxygen boost so you can burn MORE fuel...
Kero, diesel, propane...and whatever they run in them turbines is not more "potent" than nitrous... there's no use for nitrous on a turbine, as the only thing you have to do to increase power is add more fuel...up to the point where your turbine wheels desintegrate from centrifugal forces...
There's only two ways to increase power from a turbine that is running at its peak rpm: first an afterburner and second, water injection to increase mass flow...

I had no idea that RC universe was a brotherhood of humor. I can't believe I started this thread and it is still alive. I love some of the responses.
As for the whiplash, I'll leave that to your imagination
I am so honored being part of such a select group of global individuals, it's like I know each and every one of you.
Thanks to Marc for RC Universe and making the RC world a home away from home.

600 mph ?
Faisel (DJ Gaget),
It's been fun reading the replies to your original thread. I believe you posted the original back in November.
Some of the guys took it serious, some were a little hostile, but most of us have been having loads of fun with our replies.
Thanks for the fun time!
PS: You guys have a nice club web site.

I had an old Craft-Air butterfly once with clipped wings, and 10 Estes rockets strapped on it... Unfortunately it had a glitch in the elevator when I was doing a high speed pass and that puppy went straight up into orbit.. It's space debris right now unless it already burned up in re-entry. Oh... I have a condo in Arizona with a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean too

a guy in the club i'm in bought a P-51 Mustang modeled as a reno racer with a 200cc engine in it and he was told it was clocked at 263 MPH (that's miles per hour). he said that the people he bought it from raced the plane. i saw the plane in person and it was big with a monster engine and i believe it. he is our former president so i don't think he would be making it up.

Looking at the pic it is probably a Photoshop plane, but... has anyone ever given it a try? You would need some heavy covering though...
Has anyone ever measured the exhaust gas speed of these small turbines?
I bet you would turn some heads at the field if you show up with a turbine powered Whiplash...

Are you sure about that?
I mean, I know it must be fast, but 780 mph is faster than the speed of sound... I also know these things are noisy, but that would make them very noisy...
I believe I read somewhere it was in the region of 600 mph.
I just come from buying a second hand KJ-66 turbine, so after I get this thing running I will have to come up with some sort of device to measure it myself... Ideas, anyone?
Anyway, if what you say is true, than there is still some "uncharted extreme speed territory" ahead of us.. So...time to go to work on that turbine Whip...

i think the heat is finally melting their brains over there in uae... go find your oasis and have a drink of water......
fwiw.. i have a 30' ultra sport with triple scram jets on it.. it has solid rocket boosters to get the scram jet up to speed.. does about 8000 miles per hour.. just a rough guess tho. have to fly it via the contrails...

Peripheral speed: = 160,000RPM * 0.054m * PI /60 (m/s) = 452 m/s
Turbine blade angle: 40 degrees (probably 37 but we'll go to extremes here) -> 452 * sin(40) = 290 m/s -> 648 mph
That is subsonic (0.87M at sea level)
BTW, even though the turbine (and compressor) seem to be supersonic (452 m/s -> 1.36M ASL) they are actually subsonic as well because they are working at a higher pressure.
That said, I'd love to see a Wren powered whiplash.... Probably get to 400mph before turning magically to confetti

Yeah... you're right. I guess that this is what happens when you've been designing one of these things for the last couple of months.
At least I'm not being blamed for being serious.
