Vicman, I would love to come down and would have made the trip but my job is taking me back up to Canada in May. The local RC club in that area has some speed aholics so I will be in good company. Finished the wing of the Magnum tonight going to work on the rest tomorrow Two servos for the elevator don't trust that crazy dual elevator hook up[&:] Put .030 mill plastic sheet on the belly and the underside of the wing tips for those insane belly landings.
Saw the video.............that was fast!![X(]

JETT sells the muffler adapter($30) as part of the SJ90LX package. I am running a 12x6 APC at 14,000 rpm. After the engine is broken-in I will check the speed with a radar gun. This is the hottest glow engine I have ever owned. I pushed the limits on OS engines and they don't last very long.

George ... oh yes, they have the Lil Toni package! The Jett engines are hot stuff, I opened mine up and can see the turbo scoop on the crank and all. Reminds me of the high performance RC car engines!

Moparmyway- I tried to upload some pics tonight and the upload won't go through. I will try again in the morning it seems like they go through easier in the mornings.

Finished dialing in the motor today in my Kaos. Super Tigre .45ABC, Perry Carb, and a Mac's tuned pipe and header. I am hoping the Jett Bubbless Tank comes in this week so I can fly it by the end of the week. I found a friend with a Radar Gun so I might be able to get a fairly accurate speed. Can't wait to see this thing scream down the runway.

Moparmyway- I am having a rough time uploading the pics. They keep uploading as giant pictures and I don't know how to reduce them. I never had this problem before if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong let me know.

A FYI... the black trim on the wing and fuse is a cling type covering and will not stay on in flight. Best to remove it before hand. I removed mine and used it to cut regular covering and ironed that on. use low temp covering as the yellow is low temp.

I went to a huge RC Flea Market looking for two things....aPatriot kit and a Magnum. This guy had a had a huge pile of kits and I spied the Magnum on the bottom of the pile. The box was so dusty and dirty you couldn't read it but I recognized the picture on the side flap of the box. The guy had the box marked 90 and I talked him down to 80. I'm going to another RC Swap flea whatever they are next Saturday. Mabey I'll find the Patriot kit or another Magnum. I'll post some pics when the plane is done and give a maiden flight report possibly later this week.

Even RCU- Thanks for the info on the covering. What if I go around the trim with clear nail polish? I already discovered the LOW TEMP part when I started to tack down a piece and nuked a spot....[&:]

Peel the covering off. Don't mess with the old stuff.
If it comes off in flight...and it will, it causes some real bad flight charactaristics right before the crash. It aint worth it.

Just the fake carbon stuff.
I tried desparatly to keep mine, even cleaning underneath with acetone, re-sealing with an iron and sealing the edges with acetone. Most of the pieces on the fuse peeled off after the first flight.

This might help to keep the covering on. I have used this method on three of my magnums and so far they are holding up.
I went to the cheepy dollar store and purchase some clear finger nail polish and put a couple of applications of polish about 1/4" on either side of the seam, edge, perimeter or what ever you want to call it.
If you get a spot loosening up just clean with acetone and reapply.

Just my 2 cents, anything to help a brother speed freak

Oh and just a helpful hint, make sure the wing pin is secure. Check it after a couple of flights, cause the magnum takes off like a missle when the wing leaves it.

WOW...finished tuning the motor today that will be going in the Magnum. ST 45ABC Perry Carb Mac's header and pipe. I was getting about 15, 400 on the 9X8 and it just didn't sound like it was completely "On the Pipe." My last cut during the tuning process was to short due to a lousy pipe cutter.[:@] Today I backed the pipe 1/4 inch out stuck a 9x7 APC on it and YEEEEE HAAAAAAAA....16,500 and it is screaming "On the Pipe" now. I have been testing it in a Kaos and today it was really windy. Didn't matter that Kaos was screaming so fast, it was as if the wind didn't exsist. I can't imagine what that Magnum is going to do
I think I'm gonna try the finger nail polish first....then if things go to pot.....a whole new stripe design!

Should I set it up with High Speed and Low Speed Rates. In other words more throw for take off and landing and factory rates for the high speed runs. I'll be frank I am not looking forward to hand tossing this thing. I pride myself on my take offs.....I always let any plane I fly get up to the proper air speed before I rotate. I hate to see guys yank their planes in the air before they are ready to fly. I've seen alot of crashed planes from that. The landings I think I can handle....we have long wide grass runways with long open approaches...so setting up for the "flying rock landings" will be easier. It's that first take off I'm worried about[X(]

They glide like a pair of pliers, even with the CG set-up properly. Did you do a search on here for the correct CG? Vic probably knows it off-hand.

I gotta get back flying...

I don't know where Razor had his set but most of the ones I saw fly before mine have a heart stopping sink for the first 20 yards of take off. Mine is set even further aft than his if I had to guess and running a 9x8 it seems to haul right out of the hand without that drop. I plan to go a little higher on the prop soon and am a bit worried what that will do to my take offs.
There is a great thread in here somwhere that covers the CG very well. Crazy4Flight was the guy who I credit the most for figureing it out.

In the early days of these planed I know there were a lot of losses on takeoff because the CG was not far enough back.

I'm gonna start with the 9x8 as well....until I get used to it[X(] I saw that thread on the CG awhile back and now I can't find it. If my memory serves me correctly I think the C of G was somewhere in the 140 to 145mm range which puts it in the 5.5" standard. I had a foam p-51 that hated to be hand launched. At three quarter to full throttle it would torque roll and at half throttle it would flounder through the air like a dying goose until it got enough air speed.[:@] It flew like it was on rails once it was up...I traided it... If anyone knows where that CG thread is I would appreciate it....I should be at the balancing point in my build by Wednesday or Thursday....hoping for the maiden flight on Friday
