RE: new design: Strega 45
I am thinking about the next model.
Last week made a start with the Shark with a full cowl but I want to make another very nice speed model.
Has anyone a suggestion or a wish ?

Ever thought about a true speed monster...?
Not a "scale" model but something like that Shark, fully cowled engine and pipe, but sized for .60-.90 size engines... Inverted engine setup, high wing, long slender fuse, V-tail perhaps...

RE: new design: Strega 45
I have thought about that kind of model but for a 40 engine.
I will start with the Shark and that one wll have a full cowl around the engine and pipe.
Do you have a sample how the model must look ?

RE: new design: Strega 45
Look,
I would suggest a 90 sized speed model also. Something designed the OS 91DF, proven engine, very reliable, correct sized tune pipes available. Lots of 40 sized stuff around to go really fast, just look at the q40 or other pylon racers. Nothing currently made for the larger engines.
Hand launch skid landing something just like your Beretta just a lot larger.
Like this would be awesome

RE: new design: Strega 45
Thank you.
And then with a full cowl around the engine and pipe.
Very thin fins and the tail and nose longer. I will think about it.
Thank you very much for the samples.
Are more flyers interested in this kind of models or other models ?

If you want to see how much interest you should draw up a rough sketch and start a seperate thread. I know at least 4 or 5 people that would probably buy something 90 sized.

RE: new design: Strega 45
Back to the Strega. Yesterday morning very early I have made the first fuselage in the new mold.
After some speedflying that day I have made the belly pan. This afternoon I can relieve the fuse out of the mold.
The belly pan tomorrow. Now I can work again on the firewall.

RE: new design: Strega 45
The firewall drawings and CNC cutting files are ready. All fits very well in the cut off nose. Tomorrow I will cnc cut the firewall parts in a good quality 3mm plywood and glue them together to 9mm total. So tomorrow I can build in the engine. Starting with taping the spinner plate to the fuse. Do this carefully and do not forget to mount the small alu Tru Turn insert. And tomorrow I will mark the sample firewall for cutting out the space for the header and pipe. After marking I will update the CNC cutting files.

Yep, this high quality pipe is rather quiet (as you can expect with all these chambers), so not the ultimate solution in terms of all out power. I like the "machined" finish on these, not easy to clean though...
I thought that they were discontinued [&:]. Do you know a place where to get them ? [:-] I suspect it *might* come from your attic

Hobby In in Waalwijk sells them. I want to make the first flights with this pipe and then mount an open pipe to see the difference.
On our flying field they do not like speedflying or noise.

RE: new design: Strega 45
I will use the OS 45 DF with a Hatori header. I can not use the original header because in the box was a 10cc header.
But I will make the Hatori header short as possible for more rpm.

For cutting out some space with the Dremel for the engine I have made a template. Use a pencil to draw on glass for marking the template to the fuse. Remove all dust after using the Dremel:

RE: new design: Strega 45
Today I have cut the new fuselage formers for the engine with a hole for the carburator an space for the header. There is a big hole in the middle for the silicon tube. Glue the formers from plywood straight together with the top equal and use some tools to align the holes. Use epoxy or Elmers white for glueing. Take your time and do it right. Mount insert nuts on the back to mount the engine. After mounting use some ZAP green for securing the insert nuts. Dril the hole for the carburator cable (Sullivan red) through the motormount before mounting in the fuse.

Sand the place where the firewall will beglued with 80 gritt and remove all dust !!
There is only one way to bring in the mount and firewall inside the fuselage.
See the pictures:

When working on the engine put a piece of tissue in the inlet and outlet to prevent dust or dirt to come in the engine.
