Hi guys

I am looking for the root and wing tip perfil and wingspan for a Bill Evans Simitar.
I just have the fuse and want to build the plane.

Long live Bill Evans and his designs. I have three of them right now.

I have the Desperado and the 1/2 A Scimitar plans, and I have made jpg files of the root and tip templates. I can send them to you as attachments if you email me your email address. I can't attach files to the RCU email.
When I scanned the profiles I scanned a ruler with them, if the size gets wrong due to inaccuracies of the scanner/printer.

The Desperado wings are 25 inches long, for each half wing. They recommend a 2.0 inch anhedral. I built mine that way, and it is VERY VERY difficult to understand the orientation of the airplane. The short fuselage, and the anhedral make it look like it's inverted. You can also build it flat or with some dihedral.
It has Jett 50 with a 9x8 APC prop, and it is VERY FAST.

The 1/2A Scimitar is 24 inches long, each half wing, and has a 1 1/8 inch dihedral for each tip.
I built this 1/2 A , but I cut 4 inches off each root before I joined them. It was too slow with an .09, so I extended the nose and put in an OS 32 FSR. It's fast now, but it doesn't glide at all.

I also have a Shooter, which is my junk airplane. It has a piped Rossi 45 and it's fairly fast.

:D None of them are as fast as my 1/2 A Taperwing with a Shuriken .061 with a minipipe. Unfortunately, It has a tail. :(

Murphy´s law,can not find the plans.

I had a Skywalker years ago...tried the sliding tray mixer and got flutter, tried the Ace Christy mixer and couldn't get enough throw. This was before I had a computer radio. Great plane otherwise, and very pretty. Looked a lot like de-kitters Shooter.. Piped Rossi 60 powered..I'll post a pic in this thread later...

Most all of the Bill Evans wings are very much alike. I believe you could use either the Desperado or the small Scimitar wing profiles on your Scimitar 540. The smaller one is a bit thinner, so if you are going fast, add a few strips of carbon fiber under the sheeting. If the fuse does not match exactly, shim it or cut it.

The balance is not critical, just start off with about 1/8 inch of "up" in each aileron, and fly it.

Nice plane! I do think Bill used the same wing for the Simitar 540.

My simitar design. 61" span, forward swept 5 degrees
.25 Norvel, Fox 45-50 quiet muffler. Flys great almost can't be heard at half throttle. Next one will have a v-tail and K & B 6.5
rear exhaust, Should be good for some grins. Will send picture as soon as I figure out how to use less bytes.

I bought a plane several years ago which was a prototype, glass fuse and a 72" span no tail -plain feathers, tri gear, it turns out it is a take off of your shooter, it only took 3 years two figure it out,Not a simitar like i thought, Thanks

I'm in the process right now of building my 2nd Simitar "Deuce". It's one of the earlier designs, has 54" span and takes a 40 sixe 2c engine. I have the plans, and could scan and email you the tip and root rib drawings.

Evans' Flying Wings
 

Most of Evans' wings were published in RC Modeler n\magazine. Go to the RCM Store and click on the plans section. You have to scroll down, looking for his name, but you can find the plans. It used to list on the plans where you could buy the foam cores.

Got to the RCM Plans page. There were 4 different Simitars listed, but not the "Deuce". I'm making the templates now, and will cut my own cores as soon as I can find someone with a good hot wire cutter.

I built one of these a few years ago, and it was a dream to fly. Only got 2 or 3 flights though before a bad Xmitter (HiTec Flash 4) totaled it for me.

Appreciate your help though - keep 'em flying!!!

Good Evening Everyone

I have many of Bill Evans plans in the 8.5 x 11 size. I also have the Simitar 540 full size plans.

As well I have plans of my own.

Attached is a photo of a modified Bill Evans with an ASP 91. This is a super flying airplane. It will leap off the ground when full throttle applied and continue climbing. It is one of the better flying wings for upright and inverted spins.

I have built and flown many forward swept wings. I find them very stable and very aerobatic.
