Regular guy's Phenom thread

1 Attachment(s)
Well for those of you who are average builders who operate on the RC hobby on a budget less than the Queen of England, I submit to you my Phenom build thread!

I have an old run-down, beat up, poorly lit, leaky shed where I attempt to build my RC models. Please find below for your approval my first post and pic of my Oakdale Phenom.

My Dremel battery is dead and I cannot find the charger, but I began construction in earnest this afternoon.

The good news is the ARF is world class quality with easy to follow instructions-
The bad news is I had 4 margaritas (Cazadores is good but Centenario is better) and I had my DVD player going so I did not get much done-(See Dremel info. above)

I REALLY need my Dremel to be charged and ready to roll I think...

More to follow...

A couple more margaritas and you'll be ready to go :)

I wish someone would get one of these in the air so I can decide if I want one. My Jett .50 is getting bored of the Eindecker :)

daven I take that as a personal challenge! It is frustrating not having the right tools...

Razor I know what you mean. I'm currently living in a 1 br apartment 350 miles from my workshop. I'm getting tired of working on my coffee table! This silly little electric should have been done in about 2 days, but its coming up on 3 weeks. RRRRR!!!!!!

Good Luck, and get that thing in the air!

Margarita's and chocolate chip cookies? Weird, but not as weird as a guy I used to work with who liked beer and chocolate chip cookies! [:'(]:)

Hey! Howe come your Dremel doesn't have a cord??? :D

Razor-RCU 02-04-2007 12:39 AM

RE: Regular guy's Phenom thread

Aw heck! No wonder that Dremel doesn't work...:)

Also, what on Earth are micro-balloons? OK I know what they are but are they REALLY necessary?

I am thinking about wrapping the entire airframe in bacon and deep frying it...maybe adding chocolate sauce afterwards with some swiss cheese. OK so I am still buzzed---

Tom- I used to have hot fudge sundae's with orange juice-

Don't worry about the micro balloons! In your condition you would never get them blown up anyway.:D Just use cookie crumbs.
:)

Thanks goodness!

We need to plan a one day Revver's get together at Rabbit. I know Russ wants to do some video of the Phenom.

Anyone have a date in mind?

The weekend of March 9-10 I will be up north for my mother-in-law's 90th birthday. Hopefully, this Revver get together will be on a different weekend. This is a subliminal message designed to make everyone subconciously think that the weekend of March 9-10 is not a very good idea!

Razor, you really need to get your priorities straightened out.

I do not have a DVD player for my workshop.
Dremel #1 has CORD! No need for charging. (xmas gift 3 years ago)
Dremel #2 has a CORD and a flex shaft. (Xmas last year)
Dremel #2 came with accessory kit. see pic #2
OK the drill has a battery, spare battery, but the charger is hard to miss see 3rd pic.
Porter-Cable drill was door prize from a machine tool dealers open house.

There is no such thing as come back to Crazy's post.

I see how I have gone awry...

"Queen of England"? THAT is funny... Folks think $360 is a lot for an engine but try a tennis bracelet from Tiffany's [X(]

I guess I am almost divorced---got to go to counseling first though or else it looks like I don't care.

Teamamerica- I used to ride a unicycle... MANY years ago. I have always wanted another...

I should try that. But I have trouble flying below me. I think we could find someone to juggle T-Rex's.

Razor: I should be saying "I use to ride a unicycle" at my age of 56. But today I can only say "I just did".[8D]

It was gorceous at Rabbit today. We could have stayed all day but none of us had had any breakfast so at 1:30 we had to adjourn to Jonny Ds. Gonna do it again tomorrow.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I did a little more work on the Phenom tonight. Only 2 Margarita's this time so I was not as efficient...:D Found my Dremel charger so I was ready to tear it up---

I was working on getting a good joint between the wing(s) and fuse. I have attached a few comparative pics of the Phenom and my Whiplash-X for size and shape comparison.

James.

Skip the micro balloons for filler on the spars, use milled glass fibre.
you may needt o file out some of the glue fillets on the fuse formers to getthe spars flush to them. I had to but it did not take long,

I can send you some, Just PM me your snail mail address.

Too cold to paint here this past week. So I made a cowl out of balsa for my Hobby Shack Joss Stick. I hope the Saito 180 will pull that tank around. To think they put a single servowith torque rods in that big sheeted foam wing. I cut the pocket open for dual servos. I know I should have bored a hole thru the foam and mounted the servo midwing.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thanks guys. Was a little bummed out after screwing up my second attempt of making a decent fuse for a cut down Q-500 wing for club pylon racing. After reading your posts, I am ready to go back into my just finished shop remodle and go after it again. Good thing I bought all that balsa from recent estate sales. See ya & ENJOY
Razor (glad to see someone got rid of the finance department with remaining ability to buy Jett engines.)

EXTORT MONEY HA!

Why not go down to the school yard and take some kids lunchmoney? In a few weeks you will have enough for a 60LX.

Razor: I used to be able to drink! :D

I had a Valencia orange tree in my backyard. Every day when I got home from work, I would pluck 8 oranges from the tree. Then I would squeeze the juice out of them on my hand squeezer. I would add 8 ice cubes to a huge, tall glass. Then I would add 8 ounces of tequila, and the juice from the 8 oranges. Then I would sip it while watering my lawn. :D

Razor,

Yep! the 90L is on the left pic#1 on the right is a used 76. 90-L is for my GP F-4 pic#2 Pic # 3 is a new BSE 30 FIRE, used QM40, just repaired .50 FIRE, on the 60LX for the Phenom.

And I send you an envelope with some of the milled glass fibre I used in place of microballoons. About 50% more than what I used. Mix it in at about the same consistancy as the microballoons.
