Need a cheap(er) alt to the Hacker A30 : 10XL
Damn I'm cheap ... actually I'm nearly broke from this hobby (aren't we all?).
I'm building up a NOS Fliton John Glezelli Extra 260 (Wingspan: 50.39 in / AUW: 46 ~ 50 oz), the recommended motor is the Hacker A30 : 10XL (600W / 800kv), in fact this is the motor that John actually used in his prototype testing. Fliton also recommended the AXI Gold 2820/10 or the E-Flite Power 25BL 870.
I will be using 4S 3200mAh 30C (50CPeak) LiPO's
I'd really like to buy the Hacker .... but like I said, I'm cheap and broke.
Two questions -
1) has anyone found a TRUE power Equivalent to the Hacker A30 : 10XL (600W / 800kv) in any of the Hobby King Turnigy or other motors? (I do NOT trust the Hobby King specs or most of their product page reviews)
2) Anyone have a good true alternative motor suggestion in the $25 - $40 range from a US online dealer? (want to stay with 800ish kv and 600watts range)
Much appreciate your expert advice(s).

Check out the Welgard motors at http://www.graysonhobby.com for about 40 bucks.

Welgards are actually Suppo motors, not the best reputation - I've had two burn out prematurely (melted stator wire insolation) - and you can get them a lot cheaper than Grayson's at a lot of online dealers. Here's one (but he's out of stock on this one) http://www.lightflightrc.com/HTML/products/2826-05.htm
Rather than get a general direction to a store with a certain brand of motors, I'd like a specific recommendation on an equivalent motor to the Hacker (or the AXI) that some one has had experience with. Do you have specific experience with a Suppo (Grayson) motor that is the Equiv to the Hacker A30 : 10XL?
The KMSQuantun 2820/05 was the exact same motor as the AXI Gold 2820/10 (KMSis a manufacturer in China), but apparently Global Hobby has dropped them to carry a really crappy line of their own, and/or Hacker has leveraged KMS to only make the motors for them. Either way, there are no KMSmotors in the USanymore.
Thanks for the reference though.

RE: Need a cheap(er) alt to the Hacker A30 : 10XL
I have had good results with this motor http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=7125 It is a Turnigy 35-42 1,000 kv 605 watts.......$17.50
The other motors I like (don't know if it is still produced) is the TowerPro 3520-6 and 3520-7. Both of these haul a 5.5lb plane with power to spare on a 4s lipo.

Hope this helps

Yeah, I totally agree with you on the TGY AerodriveXp SK Series motors, they are terrific and the prices, less the horrendous shipping and wait, are too good to pass up. I haven't used the TGY AerodriveXp 25 SK Series 35-42 1000Kv / 605w yet, I have used the AerodriveXp SK Series 35-30 1100Kv / 345w in my BHModels YAK-54 (a much lighter plane) and it has been a terrific motor turning my YAK in to a barn burner .... fast!
Imay order that AerodriveXp 25 SK Series 35-42 1000Kv anyway, but I just got in the mail (shockingly fast for HobbyKing - 10 days total), the TR 35-48-B 900kv which some reviewers found will deliver 600+W pretty easily too. It was only $18.75 + $6 shipping. I've had problem free results from other motors in this model series in other planes. These TRmotors are actually made by XYH Motors in China, who also makes generic ones you can find all over the internet and they make the G.P. ElectriFly motors.
The last one you suggested has great specs, sold by a lot of companies under various names, but is actually made by Suppo in China. Supposedly (unconfirmed) a few people I know in the biz, claim Suppo is making the Scorpion motors too. I've had not too great experiences with Suppo motors, they tend to get too hot without undo "pushing". Had one short out in-flight when the insulation melted. The price of $37.95 is a little high for a non brand name motor. My 2 cents on that. I'll leave Suppo's on the shelf for now.
But as I said, I like your suggestion of the AerodriveXp 25 SK Series 35-42 1000Kv. I'll do some bench testing of the TR 35-48-B 900kv and see what I get; if not enough watts, then it may go into another slightly lighter plane I'm building for a friend.
TESTINGNOTES! Hobby People 2826/05 -
Last week Ibought one the the new Hobby People 2826/05 branded motors that Global Distributors is now selling in their stores after dropping KMS(Kenetic Motor Systems, Hong Kong). I had looked at other smaller 2200 series motors in this series and frankly turned up my nose for good reasons - ALLhad Kv's that were too high for the obvious applications like flat foamies and very light balsa sport or 3D planes. All had Kv's of 1200 or above! One little guy that would be perfect for a 34" WS3D Flat Foamy - Hobby People 2208/09 - has a 1950Kv spec!!! What the hell are you going to use that in?? Also, most of the motors I inspected that were in the display case at my local Hobby People store, have machining Burrs on edges and cooling openings, and already showed Rust spots on the black coated motor barrels! The manufacturing quality was definetly POOR!
I closely inspected the Hobby People 2826/05(900Kv / 600W - 35"D x 54" - 170g) at my home shop where the lighting is better and it's quieter. Again there were hints of Rust on the barrel and the machining was less than average for a $26.95 motor.Worse yet, I coould hear the ball bearing races "clinking" as I rotated the motor and also something was rubbing as I rotated the motor through 360 degree turns. Least to say, not happy and I am taking it back without even "running it up".
Beware of these Hobby People Brushless Motors, I personally think that they are cheap and crappy. Shame on Global Distributors / Hobby People, the KMSmotors were a hell of a lot better.

RE: Need a cheap(er) alt to the Hacker A30 : 10XL
Agreed the DualSky 4350CA is a sweet looking motor and the specs are awesome, but 900W is far more than I need and I'm being cheap. Still, At $52 bucks plus shipping, it's tempting but over kill since I'd have to then go with an even bigger and heavier LiPO to "feed" it. My big goal is to keep the JG Fliton Extra as lite as possible with just 'nuff battery to warm up, do my routine and make two passes of the runway (one spare in case) to land w/o choking the LiPO. Though I've come in dead stick plenty of times.
Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll bookmark it for future consideration.

RE: Need a cheap(er) alt to the Hacker A30 : 10XL
You should just buy the Hacker A30-10XL and save yourself the headache. Okay it's only double the price of the Turnigy or Suppo, but the Rm is lowest, the bearings are the best and most crash resistant. The Hacker has a steel propeller drive where everything else is aluminum. The Hacker runs cooler than anything mentioned and will sustain higher peak currents.
I have used the Turnigy SK series and they don't meet their spec for Kv or max current. The Suppo is better on spec but its Rm is too high. My best recommendation for the Hacker replacement is the Keda line of motors (HK and others). I have flown 3D with all of these motors and the Hacker is worth the extra $30. You proably spent that much on dinner last night.
Pilots flying serious 3D need the better motors. My Hackers run strong for the full flight. Everything else gets hot and sags after about two minutes of flight. If you only fly sport-intermediate or trainers then those wanna-be copies are okay.
