It was referred to in a few other threads as a Reference for pricing, and I think if you look at it from the posted time and time of sale it also has a benifit.
If you did not see the Sold' would you wonder if anyone is buying yet? It shows that the Market allthough new, is very active.

users requested we leave them up for a period as reference
users like it in case they were tracking the ad so they can see that it sold instead of "disappearing in thin air"
you can filter them out using our filter links at the top of the page.
