Default R/C mishaps

My worst R/C related accident - the day I took off my 40% extra 300S and the tailwheel hooked my pant leg. I managed to bring it around on final but just before I hit the runway I was decapitated on the fence at the end of the field. I'm fine now - it's amazing what you can do with CA.

Soon "Zap-a-Gash" might be a new product to look for in your LHS.

I would recommend fiberglass epoxy myself.

If your propeller flies off due to mechanical failure in the pits and severes your hand and the hand flies over to the frequency board, knocks off the pin and someone else grabs the pin and accidently turns on his radio and shoots someones plane down, who is responsible?

ohh... but then they exclude consequental damage in their warranty, so you'll have some work to do to get any more than a new propeller out of them.... damn fine print... whose idea was it to hire a lawyer anyway?!?!

I suggest mounting the hand on a post at the entrance to the field to remind people to be careful with the pins.

On a serious note, there was an article in the September RCM magazine about product liability recently (there is a lawyer who writes articles for the magazine). A manufacturer ended up getting sued by people who injured themselves due to their own actions:

http://www.rcmmagazine.com/e/env/000...oduct-092003-1

"Driving out to see Fred (not his real name) I wondered just what could have created the expression of great concern. What he told me, after a few pleas-antries, was that his company had been sued in two lawsuits, one at each end of the country and amazingly for the same reason: that in both instances an R/C modeler attempting to stop an engine put his foot into the propeller, which immediately shattered and in each case, put out an eye."
etc, etc, etc ....
"Within a matter of a few weeks, I was on my way to Philadelphia to meet with the lawyers for each component of the model. We had about seven attorneys in the room along with one .40 size model and with the remains of a shattered propeller."
etc etc etc ....

Disclaimer: Selective quotation may have skewed the intent and meaning of the article, I hereby accept no responsibility for possible misprepresentation of RCM magazine and the author of the article.

edit: mispelt "skewed"

If I ever get sued for something I will insist that the case be confined to the court room, a sitting justice and no jury. It is so easy for the trial to become a place for the claimant to be portayed as a an innocent victim of that dirty guy over there and a jury, picked from people off the street with nothing better to do, to be suckered into believing it. If it's a case of the law I want a judge who knows the law not some guy who wants free room and board for a couple of days.

Then there's the story of the attorney who was fishing from a boat surrounded by sharks. He fell overboard and was immediately tossed back into the boat. When asked how he did it he replied, "Professional courtesy".

I actually got my hand in the prop. It went backward when trying to start it by hand. Havn't started it by hand since. Any how the ER said it didn't need stitches to the but some kinda crap on it, sutcher os something to that nature.

It busted back open the next day. I simply held it together tightly and applied CA glue. I did this every day for a week. It worked awsome!

This story is actually true.
