Hi all just after a bit of advice.
Got about 10-12 flights now on my AD starjet with a super sport in - plane flies realy nice but landing seems to be a bit bouncy. Yesterday I had 3 flights 2 I landed a bit fast and she stuck fine but the last was nice and slow (looked like a greaser) but then she stared to bounce causing minor damage. The strip I'm going to be flying off in the future with this model is quite tight so I have to come in slow to stop in time.
My thoughts are to add crow on the ailerons and dab the brakes on touch down - anybody have any other ideas to help her to stick??
She has wire legs should I add oleos would that help??
All the best

Ant,
If you bounce after a smooth landing then you still had flying speed....there is no other force acting on the plane that will cause it to leave the ground (unless maybe you hit a bump or something). Some jets just have to land at or slightly above stall speed or they have a tendency to bounce. With these type of planes I just tell myself (once close to the runway) "don't let it land". Hold it off until it won't fly anymore and when it touches down it will not/can not bounce unless you drop it in from several feet. It's a physics thing.
Now this is not to say that gear placement, wire versus oleo struts, cg, length of nose gear (i.e.ground angle of attack) and other issues will not effect a plane's landing characteristics. I'm not familiar with the Starjet and if they are not known for bouncy landings then one or more of these factors may be off.

Hear what you are saying about still had flying speed but I landed faster two flights before with not too much problem. Will try crow and add more flap(currently have 70 degrees ish).
Plane flies very smooth and fast on the super sport - it originally had a simjet 3000 but it was too heavy (had 5 flights) then re-engined to the SS much better.
Thanks

Then Main Gear are too far back and/or the Nose gear is too long..
If the nose gear touches before the main, they will start bouncing...
Seen it 1000 times..
Hope this helps..

i say if you keep the fler i think is the right word
and you dont touch the ground hot"fast" then you will not have a problem
so its on your fingers to improuve your landins..
also what hapent to your jets was i guess:
after your first landins you hit it hard and you bent the wire..
so ii guess if you see it from side it rest with nose up mmode?????
this is why i guess when you land good and she stays on all weels
she start to jump...cose its like u give up elevator

Nutter,
I know what to do to stop all this bouncing..... Change the pilot!
5 flights with the Bandito today. Where were you?
P.S shorten the nose leg to stop the bounce.
Long Marstons finest Jet Rebel

Jason, do you have any videos of the bandito ?
I have been looking at these, since the bandito is no longer in production

I know it is nothing do with your landing, but how much fuel do you carry? We have the sister model - Exocet - which, I believe, has the same wing, tail and fin (or so I believe), running on a JF50 Bee. This goes pretty fast, so what you must be doing with the Supersport must be truly fantastic. The only problem, I saw, with the Starjet is that there is not much fuselage to put anything into!
Incidentally our front leg is just spindley wire and it just bends if it hits first. Our flap deflection is about the same as yours. On the whole we have no problem.
My thought is that the residual power on the Supersport is somwhat more than MW54/Bee. I found landing the Intro substantially more difficult with the the SSport than the other two. Have a word with Sara but I believe it is safe to adjust the SS idle RPM downwards to cut the residual thrust if you wish.

Jason,
Nothing wrong with the pilot as I'm sure if you were honest you would agree I'm pretty good at landing (and the bit before) as I seem to remember on many occations you confirming.
As for Monday flying work has gone mad loads and loads on - loads of dough - work = getting an SM/JL F15 (simjet 3k power) like the SM one I flew last bank holiday monday. liked it so much I'm getting one.

Problem solved - flew it off our tight site yesterday and landed great.
I increased the throw on the elevator to 18mm instead of the recommended 15mm - no hint of high speed tailplane stall
I increased the flap to 80 degrees which really helps it stick once its down.
Thanks all just letting you know.
All the best

Congratulations! It's nice to have someone report on the results of questions/discussions here on RCU. Too often guys ask questions, others take the time to provide thoughtful answers and suggestions and you never hear another word....bad manners in my opinion. You, on the other hand are a gentleman.
