I have one myself from my free flight and control line days. Mine has almost no run time on it and I have had it for over 45 years, I think I was thirteen when I bought it.
I can pull it out and look if no one in the know helps you but I think it was just A bushing installed in the front and it's A press fit. Been A while sense I looked at it. If so you may be able to go to any bearing shop some place like King Bearing and buy what you need and fix it yourself with some help from your dad.
You may want to post this on one of the engine sites instead of kit building though. Just A thought. PM me if you need some help and I will see how mine is made.

i fly, Gray Beard is right you might get more help in the correct forum so I'll do you a favor and move this thread over there for you. In the meantime I'll do some research and see if I can find someone that can help you out.

Hey Ifly Thats great your going to get it going. Keep in mind forward to back play or slop is normal. If the bushings are real bad the piston and liner might be shot too. If you don't have much side play I would not worry about it. Use castor oil fuel 20-25% and no or low nitro and go for it. I've got a super tigre 35 bushed that has at least 1/8 inch play front to back but still runs like a scalded cat.

Correct, early ones were bushed and you can now buy them new again from

ifly,
Before you fork over money to get a new bronze bushing installed, check the upper and lower bushings in the conrod, and the piston to cylinder fit. If the other stuff is worn out, you might want keep it as a keepsake and get a new engine to run. As someone mentioned above, you can get a new BB version for just a little more.
If the other stuff is in good condition, it may be worth it as a collector's item since they haven't made the bushing version in many years.
Just don't end up with a worn out engine with a new crankcase bushing.
Good luck with it.

Hey there i Fly....
Great to see a fella your age getting into the hobby! Like some of the other guys said though, $50 is a lot of hard earned cash to put into an old engine. That same money, plus maybe a couple bucks borrowed from your Dad would get you a nice new motor.
Don't throw that old Veco away though. Make a nice display case for it, and enjoy looking at it.
Good luck to you!
