DownT...buddy....great job on the covering...I love bright colors..how does the bottom look?
I recently bought a KAtana V2 .46 and a Twist too.....got to put the engines still in them though....
Am eye balling this Funtana....I love those large ailerons.....but the coloring of the plane is beautiful too..
anyway...love your orange covering...great job...

Wow that orange is sweet! I learned something new today. The Funtana 50 is my first 3d type bird as I usually fly prop jets, electrics and pattern birds. I noticed (almost the hard way) that with the SFG's installed the plane will glide forever when deadstick, matter of fact it did not want to land. I decided to take them off and as usual I ran it out of gas. "No problem" I thought. I would just glide it in. Well thankfully I was 5 mistakes high when I noticed that without the SFG's the Funtana will tip stall in a hurry! I saved it, but it sure was close! [:-]

Thanks fellas!
509th, those are some NICE looking birds! If you fly propped jets that must make you a speed demon, huh?

My .91 4-stroke was being a pain in the ***** so I put in my trusty old Super Tigre .61 up front and she will flat go out of sight!

It would not fit in the mount and I just did not feel like hacking up the mount or redrilling/threading the firewall. Thats all.

Hi can I het some engine advice please lads.
I have a spare OS61FX and a Magnum 91FS ... Both are new and only 1 tank of fuel through them
Which would be the best choice?
And which fuel through them??
I'm looking for 3D performance and I just haven't enough spare cash for a Saito or YS New Motor!!
Cheers

Beans, you have two fantastic engines there! I'm not sure of your altitude or what your temperatures are like, but I'm starting my .91 Magnum 4s with a 15x5w and I'm hoping to move to a 16x4w. What this does is slow the bird way down while still giving the plane unbelievable 3D capability. The .61 that you have might require more work to get it and a stock muffler in the cowl, but if you use a pitts muffler, you'll have all the power you'll need, but you'll be peforming your maneuvers quicker without as much torque. I use a 13x5 on a .61 here on a Twist and I can't even think of a better combination, plus I get 20+ minute flights. Our average summer temp. is 65 degrees F. If one is flying in hotter climates then I would suggest a 13x4 (better) or a 12x10 for the .61 and a 14x6 or 15x4w (better) for the .91. That's what works for me here at 1000 ft above sea level.

RE: Anyone get a new Funtana X 50 yet?
On the 1st flight of the day and 6th of its life, the plane and the wing decided to part ways today [:@] I was flying straight and level and at about 1/2 power when out of nowhere the wing went up and the plane went down!! Come to find out the spar is made out of balsa wood and had little to no glue holding it together (came pre built). Hopefully Horizon will warrenty it as my wallet is ticked off! [] That being said, I am in no way bashing Horizon or Hanger 9, I think I just got the one fluke airplane off the Chinese assembly line, I think they will take care of the problem (I HOPE).

Phil,
That's scary. I'm going to maiden mine soon and now I'm a little concerned.
You're lucky that it didn't "lawn dart" and smash the motor!

It should be obvious from the photos that the wing did fail in flight. The fact that the fuseledge remained almost intact shows that the wing failed on its own and not from any impact with the ground.
Horizon had the same issue several years ago with their blue Chapman 25% CAP and from what I heard they made them good. I have one and it had no such issues however.
I was going to buy an X 50 today but will take a wait-and-see.

When I crashed my old F40 that is where the wing broke. The crash had nothing to do with the wing. It didn't look real stout to me but I had 200 flights on it with many hard Walls and Parachutes. I have not started the new F50x yet.
Please post and let us know how Horizon responds. I have had great luck with them in the past on service issues.

So far...So good in respect to Horizon. They are sending me a call tag and requested I send the plane back to them for inspection.

I fully expect that Horizon will make good on their product. They have always had a solid customer service program. I will also bet that right now there are wings being inspected in Champlain.
Unlike some other industries, companies that are involved in hobbies and modeling always seem to go the extra mile when it comes to product customer service.

Wow! sorry to here about your plane man! Hey if you get a chance I'd like to know where you all fly out on base. It would be nice to have a good group to fly with as I am out there at least one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer

RE: Anyone get a new Funtana X 50 yet?
Hey guys,
My LHS recommended the JR 821 Digital Servo's like these:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=JRPS821
What do you guys think??
I am still researching what kinda servo's I want in this puppy.
I have a brand new O.S. 61 engine for the X 50, but not sure what kinda servo's to get.
The reasoning from the LHS was that with my radio (FUTABA 6EXA) I could use these servo's also to program as spoilerons.
What do you guys think/would recommend??
They would be my 1st JR servo's...as well as my 1st digitals...so far I have only used Futaba and HiTec servo's....
Thanks for you guys's help

509thBoomer, do you mean that without the SFG's the the 50X will tip stall too easily when flying normally, or just in the case of a deadstick landing and gliding at high angles of attack, and no power at all...?
Barry, thanks for pointing this thread out to me. Are you going to get a 50X?
Thanks!
Ernie

dutchalltheway,
I don't think you will be able to set up spoilerons with the Futaba 6EXA. It only has one mix available and you will have to setup the mix to slave channel 6 off of channel 1. You will be unable to create both twin aileron servo AND flap mixes. Also, be careful becuse if you touch the flap knob, the right aileron's trim will be effected. I just moved up to a 9C because of this.

Just at deadstick (as with most any aerobat). I did not own it long enough to test the stall characteristics with out the SFG's under power. Having them on though sure can give you a sense of comfort when getting slow.

Ernie Misner...
You're welcome. No....I don't think I'm going to get the 50 size. I'm looking hard at the 100 but I want to see some more "actual" weights so I can see if my YS 110 will be enough engine for it.
Right now...I'll probably get the 100X.
Thanks
Barry
