While shopping for BBs last night, I noticed there are different grams...
.12
.24
and I want to say .06
what do you use or what is best for our tanks to use?

interesting post .
the only thing i could say about projectiles ,
is that i took a q-tips ,cut it in half and melted a needle in it .
then you slip the qtips(swab) down the barrel
et voila ...flying needles that puncture my balloons and h.l. target furnished with the tank.
you still need the bb s too shoot the needles.

I've been doing some extensive testing in my quest to reach over 200fps. The .20g bbs give a heavy penalty in velocity, up to 80fps! The Crosman glo .12g bbs I bought at Wal-Mart have given me the best performance so far, reaching a high 207fps. The CyberGun bbs have been close and the main problem with them is their low quality, I've had 6 molded together come out of the jar, round tubes come out and the remnants from when they were molded are on every one.
My best overall bb has been the crosman glo .12g. Excellent uniformity, never a jam, consistant performace. The yellow bbs that Mato has been supplying in the 2000 count container have performed very well also. I haven't recorded their performance yet as far as number go.
I'm using 6.04mm and 6.03mm barrels, brass and aluminum and have spec'd out the bbs and paintballs and am testing a variety of springs.

i also use crossman bb`s .12g the green ones.
they come from canadian tire stores.
satified with them.
what is hl normal shooting speed ?
did you drilled another hole in the tube to obtain that result?
did you find a better spring then the hl one ?

When I had my HenLong Tiger, I tried both the .12g and .20g bb's. The gun worked best with the .12g. BUT, with my Marui and VS tanks, the .20g bb's work the best. My Marui and VS tanks would punch out the .12g bb's at an upward trajectory, making it impossible to hit soda cans and stuff like that. Using the .20g bb's, my Marui and VS tanks can belt out a bb's at straight trajectory and hit a soda can from 50 feet away easily. If you have a HenLong, go with the .12g. If you have a Marui or VS, definitely go with the .20g. Hope this helps!

thanks ,cool hint (tracers) !
just given me the reason to put a led lighting in the coupala!

what color the light bulb inside the real tiger was like (white or green)?

The average velocity of a stock HL gun is 80fps. I do not drill holes in the barrels, that is a myth that plays out when you measure velocities. I'm using Systema and Mad Bull airsoft barrels cut down to size, 207mm for the correct length for a Pershing and 234mm for the Tiger. Haven't figured the Panther or M41 out yet.
VS and Marui units use a breach with an actual hop up feature in them. This imparts the spin on the round when it leaves barrel and causes the upward trajectory. Using the .20g bbs makes for flatter trajectories and sacrifices velocity. Ohh, A stock VS A6 airsoft unit averages about 135fps. So does a Heng Long unit with a Systems 6.04mm barrel!
As for springs, I bought some from my local hardware store and ordered 8 from Century Spring Company. My goal with the parts is to arrive at my goal with parts that everyone can obtain so they may replicate the same performance, even years later. Right now I can consistantly break a paintball against a hard verticle surface from 13 feet. I want 15! Because of their smaller diameter the paintballs velocity averages 150fps during testing with the Systema 6.04mm barrels.
Other things to test out is the return spring on the outside, the diameter of the nozzle, use of spacer and or guide rods and lubrication. Tests with more powerful motors haven't contributed to a performance gain.
Anyone got a lathe? The weak link in these things is the breach, I'm constantly breaking them, in the stock airsoft units! Would be great if someone could turn them out in aluminum or a more durable plastic/polymer.

very interesting ,
i like your scientific approach fps ! just wondering how you caculate it (probably with the distance) ?
where did you get the new barrel 6.04mm ? link?
could i use the complete metal tiger barrel from ebay to shoot ?(good diam.?)
think i have cross a post of you on the other site (ket).
so you don t buy the whole holes theory
[&:]
will try to search and look back your postings.
for the breach problem that you`re experiencing ,
can i suggest ,forge it with aluminum ,it is such an easy material to work.
or
making a cast ,with a putty then,
go purchase a can of fiberglass(paste type) with strings of fiber(no sheets) apply the waxpaper on your new moulds so the fiber wont stick to the moulds once hardened ,poor the f b paste.
fiberglass will absorb the stress.
and of course ,make the new part thicker on one side.

Forgot to mention I have only tested the BBs in Marui & Vstank models. I still haven't bought a Henlong so I have no idea about how
strong the Gun is.
strong the Gun is.

strong enough for playing and paper target satisfied and surprised how straight it shoots for a 99$ tank.
but marui`s supposed to be stronger better.
rc members ,where is the place for buying 6mm paintball on the net,
a ballistic war is preparing in my sector.

The only thing the motors can do is to provide more torque to compress the spring. Even using long can 180 sized motors it doesn't make a difference.

These are the most reliable tested thus far, no jams in my 6.04mm barrels! The other brand they offer are not consistantly round, nor is their diameter and they've jammed.
A stock VS airsoft unit is much more powerful then the Heng Long. 135fps vs 80.
My tests are done with a Chrony F-1 that I purchased from these guys: [link=http://www.eabco.com/chronyshooting.htm]Chrony F-1[/link]
I need to get the light fixtures, my porch is shaded and the lighting isn't always so great for testing and has limited my days. Also, with the shade, sometimes I can only register results with certain color bbs and not others.
I usually buy the barrels on e-bay. I buy the longest ones possible so I can cut them down to make 2 or 3 for my tanks depending on length. The Systema barrels are brass and made it necessary for me to use fishing weights to balance out the turret of a Pershing. The Mad Bulls are aluminum.
For testing I test the guns outside the tanks so I can quickly swap out parts. The motor is wired directly to a battery with a momentary switch. There has been no performance gain or loss doing it this way to date.

I second the .20 in the marui/vstanks.
I tried to install a tracer unit on my abrams a while back. I put the lighting unit from a marui tracer(I got one on mistake with an order a while back) inside the ammo well. looks pretty good, it makes the bbs glow for about 3-4feet past the barrel. I don't think the light is strong enough to "activate" the glow when dispersed in the well. It was just one of my experiments before I got the IR versions.

Hey swathdiver:
If you could assemble a kit complete with a Mad Bull airsoft barrel section (cut to appropriate size as you say), springs and any other fittings plus instructions to upgrade the OEM airgun on a HL tank...
I would easily buy one (or more) kits from YOU.
Whaddya think? I think your efforts and hard work in this endeavor could be made to pay off--with a reasonable fee of course.

sorry ,
fallen out of my chair [

you have found and purchased that chrony f-1 [X(][X(][X(]
impressed !! i admire your tunning competences,
since the quality of your experimenting tests, .
wont argue with you about airguns

Selling a kit is not something I've given much thought to. I've been focused on just trying to meet the goals with a very limited amount of time. Now I did give some thought to a 360 degree turret mod with 7 or more wires available for accessories in the turret. That's the next project after the airsoft units.

just to split the work ,
want to let you know that i will work on the transmission soon.
making it slower but ,
it is the low speed torque my objective:
to avoid pressing more on the controller when slow turning in hard condition,it always end up that suddenly you get a burst of speed that mess everything during aiming on uneven surfaces.
swath>>> do i order these paintballs ,or it is better to work on the shooting unit first ? at 80 fps what is the maximum distance to make them brake ?
if i remember well was something like 8 feet ?

If I remember right it was about a 1-2 feet! 8 feet??? That sounds like Marui/VS unit's perfermance.
As for speed, the smoke and sound tanks are pretty scale now with the new motors. More torque would be nice. Are you planning to do something like Willy did at custom rc models with the Tamiya gearboxes?
