dom, I have the Hyper ST and yes the engine is a paper weight now!! it has a Axial in it now and the thing is a whole new truck. I also have 2 thunder tigers at my disposal and have to say they are nice trucks as well not as refined as the Hyper but every bit as tough and the engine is wonderful!! if your bashing Id have to say TT ST1 as for racing Id say Hyper ST. hope this helps

St-1 is really hard to beat if you want toughness, and they handle pretty decent too. I actually have one with an axial 28rr spec1, and it screams, keeps up with picco 28, and runs about 200 degrees all day.

Hyper ALL the way...
Handles like a cartoon and drives amazing.

This is after 10 Hours at the track, and I beat my trucks HARD.
All that broke was a chassis brace, and it was my fault since I didnt check the screw [:@]

And another one for good measure

In the price point and if it was me, I'll go with the Hyper ST as my LHS has a ton of spare parts. Best bet is to see what your LHS has in stock as far as spares and take it from there. Buying on-line is usually cheaper, but breaking a part, not having it in your gear box and not being able to find it locally would ruin your fun rather quickly...

honestly it doesn't matter what I buy wen it comes to parts availability because no one sells rc parts around here I mean no one! maybe 2 or 3 nitro cars or trucks but not even fuel I have to order fuel
