RE: Painting Foam??
Any water-based or alcohol-based acrylic paint is safe to use either brushed or airbrushed. Alcohol based acrylics can thinned with 91% isopropyl alcohol (denatured alcohol) that you can buy at any pharmacy.
Avoid spray paints, laquers, and enamels. There are some safe acrylic spray paints, but if it doesn't specifically say that its safe for foam on the can, then it probably isn't. If you're unsure, test it on a styrofoam cup or a scrap piece of foam before you try it on the plane.

RE: Painting Foam??
I beg your pardon................... I use spray enamel all the time on my planes.
I have a thread over on RCgroups and on page3 of it tells how to paint an airplane with spray enamel.
Check it out

RE: Painting Foam??
The best stuff out there I have found is Pactra Racing Finish Acryls...MAKE SURE ITS THE WATERBASED STUFF. Always test it on a scrap first. I dont even thin it down, just screw the bottle right onto the airbrush and shoot. Of course, clean your airbrush afterwards. The great thing is warm water will clean it all out of the airbrush, without the need for thinner, or other solvent.
The safest way, and sometimes easiest way, not to mention lightest way is colored Sharpie Markers. They come in assorted colors, and a whole plane's worth of decoration probably doesnt weight more than a gram or so.

Krylon Short Cuts, I've used them on both Fan Fold and Depron foams. With 6 foamies under my belt, all painted with this product, I can safely say it works and is safe. Do not use regular Krylon, only the Short Cuts.
They can be purchased at your local K-Mart or I buy mine at my local Meijer.
$ 1.99 to $ 2.49 per can.
