Hey Omaha_RC_Flyer, how did you put the dihedral in the wing of your Blue Stik? I built the wing flat last night and then noticed this morning you had dihedral.
Also, what did you use for your wheels?

Built this scratch foamie the other day, out of bead foam. Didnt take time to make a hotwire so I did all shaping by hand was sandpaper and block. Seem to turn out ok. Well balanced as far as dropping from celeng and falling completely flat. Will update when I recieve my motor, esc, lipo. Saw this plane posted allready so I just coppied it (in my head). Does anyone know the name of it or some info reguarding the real plane? Would like some info please. thanks

David,

I trimmed the center of the wing in small increments, until I got the right amount of dihedral I wanted. Because of the airfoil, more material will be trimmed from the mid part of the chord, than at the LE and TE of the wing.
Looks kind of like this, but with not as much curve cut in it. [_____()_____] <-wing ()=center of wing.

The wheels are made from pill bottle tops, you can see more images about how I did it here. http://www.putfile.com/omaha_rc_flyer/images/40487 I have also made them out of the bottoms of yogurt cups.

I like your avatar, I was born and raised in Georgia. I lived in Vidalia, Atlanta, Savannah, and Blairsville. Most of my family still live there, scattered all about.

Hope this helps,
Omaha

Here is my latest one! Still need to install the servos, radio, battery, and balance.

More info on it, can be found [link=http://spadworld.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12892]here[/link].

There is still room for you in Georgia if you ever want to return.

Neat idea on the landing gear wheels. I will try them. What is the green stuff around the wheels?

I guess I might add the dihedral on the next wing I build. This one is just gonna be flat. This is where I am at this point. I am on a self-imposed "use what you got" routine for now. Brushed/geared motor, tail boom rod out of an old Firebird and left over foam wing pylons from SSC Combat builds.

Fuel tubing!

Your blue stick looks pretty good. It might be a good candidate for ailerons, since it has no dihedral.

My first one was a brushed setup, it just didn't have the powered I needed.

Later,
Omaha

backyard bipe..
undercambered wings for slow flying charactoristics, 24gr outrunner, 2.6gr servos, 10amp esc, 6channel micro rx, AUW w/2s 850 is 8.2oz. and a wing loading of 4.1oz sq ft. Still waiting on servo plugs as the servos come with jst and the rx is standard.. may have to go to a 4.3gr servo for ailerons if I decide to go with lower wing ailerons linked to top wing ail. ... balances perfect without the battery installed, so I can place it on the CG and be able to fly different sized packs without rebalancing

the ski set is removable and the set of wheeled gear I'm working on should be similar weight... looks like I'm a week away from maiden while I wait on carbon fiber for linkages and servo plugs.
probably going to redue the rudder and extend it lower between the elevator halves and reduce the top of it....

Hey Omaha, here is my finished Blue Stik, similar to yours. [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3948831/anchors_5374752/mpage_84/key_/anchor/tm.htm#5374752[/link]
Hope the wind dies down so I can try it.

put a late-night paint job on the backyard bipe and shot a little video the other day(wind was a little choppy!).. specs are in post 85..
I did mod the rudder to lower the mass.. still fine-tuning the CG had to use larger servos- the 2.5gr just didn't have the required torque especially in the winter temps-- servos I'm using are 5gr hextronic.. she gained 7 grams from the bigger servos and I had to tweak the bat bay to get the CG .. I like this lil bugger[8D] just a blast to fly.. but don't take your eye off it..

I'm always building something, not necessarily out of foam though, here is one of my original balsa creations, it's a tandemwing design with repositional wing/tail assemblies. Current revision not shown was adding landing gear since hand launching it proved impossible. The canopy shows off my custom fiberglass skills as well.

This has yet to maiden. I put 2 carbon fiber rods in each wing but the flex still concerns me. How much flex is too much? The plane weighs 24 oz loaded. I put in on the scale upside down and pulled down on the wing tips to 4 pounds. That is close to 3 g. I wonder what wing loads it will experiance in flight. After the test flight I will finish and paint, if it is worthy.

I always rip a strip of 1/8" balsa stock to around a 1/2" - 3/8" depending upon how thick the wing is, and imbed it within the wing vertically, this really helps eliminate any form of flex, it's cheap and doesn't add alot of extra weight. If you have a table saw, you'll can easily cut away that area using it prior to forming the shape of the wing itself.

Blamo,
Flexing isn't really a problem (within reason) it's snapping that's a problem. You should see how much flexing some of the bigger gliders do.
(check out [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRo1OqiD0aI]this video[/link] granted.. .the wing eventually failed, but you can see how much flex it had))
I'm sure your flexing is well within tolerable ranges. If it is still concerning you, run some strapping tape (the tape with string in it) along the top and bottom of the wing. It is a little ugly, but effective.
