Hi C141FlyGuy

I'm having a hard time sanding my model from isolating foam (EPP ? I think), but I'm almost there...

it will be an Cessna Push-Pull 336/337 or near that

BUT I'll run it only with one motor MPJET 25/35-20/GB, either push or pull, and I relocate bat.pack to keep GC

NEXT will be HOT-WIRE cut

what's the diameter/gauge for the CrNi wire and voltage/current settings?

A bad! day at the park is not so bad when you can just hot wire out another plane and go fly. This is a picture of my latest hot wire Extra 300 (yellow) It has a few mods on it like bigger control surfaces and a Hi max 4100 on a GWS C drive 5.33/1 gearing spinning a 9/7 prop. Boy does this plane move and has twice the roll rate of the original test plane (shown in the crash position). At 14 ounces it is a little fast to fly in a small park but it sure is a blast to fly and build. Oh the fun of hot wiring out your own plane you always can get exactly what you are looking for.

Nice post c141. Does my heart good to see that others have a similar attitude. Build'em fly'em and don't cry when it pounds in, just go whip a newer and better one.

I am thinking of trying the same type of building concept in a larger 27 or 28 % Katana. I plan on using some plywood on the interior for stiffness and covering with resin and 3 oz cloth. If anyone has seen this done before please let me know or post a link. I am designing it primarily for the Hom-elite 45 conversion. I also plan on building a large 72 inch span Turner Classic powered by a Ryobi 31 cc weedeater conversion.

Here are some pictures of the 80 inch wingspan Katana I am working on. I decided to let the plastic covering (grey) on the foam until I cover it.

Here you can see that we built our own composite landing gear. At first we were going to use aluminum but the weight was just too much. So we decided to build our own landing gear out of composite. You can see my friend Lance setting up the wings for the spar, so they can be removable wings. Just take off two wing nuts and the wings slide off. It makes transportation easier.

This is all the further we have gotten it will look so much better when it is all one color. this is a strong but light building concept. Tell me what you think. This plane is all my own design but made to look mostly like a Katana 28%.

Here are a few pictures of the Ryobi 31 cc conversion I made myself. It is spinning a 18/8 prop at 7400 rpm plenty of power not enough diameter for the plane to be 3D. I may use it to test the design to save time and money. A friend gave me the weed-eater for free! It sure is nice to have an old metal lathe to do my own work.

Fly Guy,
Your planes are awsome I really like the Katana! I have been thinking about doing the same thing with an Extra 300 or a Katana and making it between 74" to 80" wingspan. I was trying to find some info on it and stumbled on your post. I am very interested in your progress! Please keep us posted.

Also Thanks for serving our country!

I am currently in Altus oklahoma training for the C 5 Galaxy. While I am here I have had a chance to fly with some great people. Two of the guys are the local RC instructors who teach anybody who is interested in learning to fly. It sure is nice to see people who help the hobby to grow in this manner. One of the guys designed a great trainer L19, it is simple, reliable and can sure handle some winds! I just had to post a picture of this plane, many people have learned to fly from his design, here is a picture of Joe Gross's L19 trainer.

C141FlyGuy,

Hats off to you man! Those are some awesome planes that you have designed and cut out. I have been toying with the idea of doing some hotwire cutting. Lately, I have been building flat wing/fuse foamies mainly from blucor FFF. After looking at your work and how you make your jigs I may have to try it. Thanks for sharing!!

DutcheR,

Here is a link to Crazyherb's homemade Hot wire Bow.

Hey flyguy, you know you can shave more off the front of the flywheel on your Ryobi conversion and save even more weight. The fins don't need to be as big since the jug is out in the open. I've got a conversion with the fins shaved down more so than yours if you want a picture of it.

Whoever was looking for a great hotwire cutting source/plan page here is where I got the plans for the one I'm currently using. There is actuall a hands off attachment that you can make for cutting tapered wings. It works great and costs less than $50 to build the whole thing.
