at least it seems to have fixed the "go to last post" feature. before the ads the page would bounce all over the place as the images loaded, now it really does go to the last post and stays there.

I have noticed that those annoying ads are back as well. I very much appreciate RCU for being an free service and realize that ads pay the bills. But maybe put the ads at the begining or at the end of an thread. When the ads are in the middle of posts i think that, thats the end of posts and don't realize there's another post further down.

I have noticed it as well and agree...these things are annoying. At the beginning or end I can take, but the ones in the middle are a pain. It also puts an ad between your response to a thread and the thread itself. Maybe that is what you are referring to. Comment still the same.

that has always been there, i think.
the new ads are stuffed in right before the last post on a thread. makes sense as in that spot it will NOT be missed like the ads at the top or bottom of the page.
would all you whiners prefer pop-ups??

Nope, hasn't always been there.

I have no problem seeing the ads at the top and bottom of the page. Heck, I have even made some purchases based on those ads (Donalds Hobby comes to mind). But like I said when the middle of the page ads showed up the first time (a while ago), I will be sure not to by anything from an advertiser that pops up in the middle of the page.

Don't get me wrong, Marc and the RCU team do a great job. I understand the need for advertising to keep the site free, and money flowing to Marc for his work and dedication (I hope is realizing some benefit by now anyway). But, there is a point of advertising overload. The ads in the middle of the page reach that point. I hate pop ups also, but at least I can block those.

If it is being a whiner to express your likes and dislikes rather than sitting there and taking it, I am proud to be called one!

i was talking about the ads between the last post and the "fast reply" box...maybe hookedonrc was talking about something else?

anyways, i don't mind the new ads at all as they seemed to have solved a page loading problem that i have always hated.

To be fair the ads in the middle of the page don't really bother me, A small price to pay for such a great service the RCU forums provide.

zagnut: Yes, I was talking about the add between the quick reply and my posted response. That is new. It threw me for a loop when I first saw it. I thought something in my browser had a glitch. I guess I thought we already had enough advertising on the site. Someone disagrees I guess.

Well I'll tell I know that running a site like this is NOT cheap.. and this site is sponsored MAINLY by ads..

Dont think I'm pro RCU just because I'm a moderator..
I'm a moderator because I thought I could give back some of which I've learnt thanks to RCU..

But to top it off.. I guess I'm so tuned to blocking out ADS that I didnt even notice

But hey.. At least this is R/C related and not pitchin an ad for Viagra!!! lol

That's amazing to me. The site is jam-packed with content, from marketplace to community to product guide to forums and one banner (that only appears when you click the down arrow on a thread) stopped them? Somthin' ain't right.... Talk about tossin the baby out with the bath water....

I don't understand this. If you click the thread topic, it goes to the full RCU header with 2 ads, then you scroll down with the mouse wheel searching for the first unread post. The other option is to click the down button and go directly to the first unread post, which is topped by a single ad, then with 2 clicks of the mouse wheel it scrolls right up out of sight.

Not much to understand. The ad in the middle of the thread does not interest me. By not hitting the down arrow, I bypass it. I have no page breaks in the thread caused by an ad. It's a trade off...click the arrow and see the add, click the scroll wheel and miss the ad. I chose to click the scroll wheel.

As far as I know, I have never clicked on any ads here. Putting more of them in isn't going to change that. If the ad annoys me, I'll try to circumvent it. If I get annoyed more, I circumvent more. If it reaches the point where it is more annoyance than entertainment, I circumvent the entire site.

Understand that??

I wasn't gonna say anything but since Michael brought it up...Jongurley I'm trying to picture how the conversation went..."hey Jon, that site you told us about, we saw an ad before the last post, screw them! Were gonna stick with alt.rec.rc.airplanes cause that's better." Am I close to how it went?

I guess I don't browse the posts the same way most of you do cause I havn't seen this phenomenon. I subscribe to threads and go back with the e-mail link when it gets updated.

Okay, here's the skinny on the system of placement for these new ads. The new ads appear BEFORE any new posts in a thread when you click on "Go to first unread post." All new posts in a thread are placed beneath the ad.

I just can't believe it bothers people. How much does this site cost YOU, personally, out of pocket, again? If you don't see the ads, 24/7 LLC doesn't get paid, and RCU goes bye-bye. No matter what forum site you go to, the story will be the same. As soon as a site gets popular, the costs of operating it will require seeking outside revenue.

If you've got better ideas for bringing in money to keep this site running that are better than selling advertising, I'm sure Marc & Co. would be happy to hear them.

Like I also said earlier, I don't mind the ads at the top and the bottom. Usually, I even actually look to see which ones pop up there. I have made purchases because of them...AND I LET THE COMPANY KNOW WHERE I SAW THE AD.

But, by the same token, I find the ads in the middle of threads distracting and annoying.

I operate the same as BasinBum does, I work off of email links. The ads between the pages are present and annoying. I like some others do appreciate what RCU has to bring, but after reading Marc's response I feel as though this is just another ploy to prepare us for whats to come in the future, sort of like small implements to get us used to a little at a time. Its obvious, as I vaguely remember something to the effect that RCU would only display ads at the top and bottom of the page.

Why not give us the option to omit the unwanted ads?
