You mean "become a member of the Inner Circle"?
Good question. I guess you need to know the right people, be actively involved on a regular basis, pay certain "supermember" fees.
[have you noticed that "Good question" usually means "I don't know"?]

Moderators are selected a few ways. One way is by getting noticed by a current moderator as a result of your activity, display of sound judgment in your posts, willingness to continually help others, etc. That moderator will usually contact me to take notice of that member. If we're in need, I'll usually take the moderators selection first before any other member requests.
Another way is to simply ask to be a moderator. I'll investigate your history on RCU and take into consideration many factors such as current need for additional help, r/c experience, area of preference (warbirds, arfs, electrics, etc), activity level and more then make a determination if you would fit into the existing crew.
