Mark, poker has been in-op for what now..more than a year..why not use that valuable space on main menu for something of value
to us RCU'ers..a RC related item maybe. Maybe it would be a nice spot to add a link button to all 2.4ghz related articles, info, etc...
since 2.4ghz is the BEST thing happening to RC since sliced bread!

2.4Ghz is very big but it is all in our forums and product guide. I don't think there is a good aggregator link that we would point to. Also 2.4Ghz is really just a method of transmission and the nuances of it very soon will be backburnered and typical radio programming/usage will be what is discussed I am sure. How often did users ever discuss the radio bands of 72/75/27/53? Never because it is technology we really don't need to know about. Same with 2.4Ghz will happen. On the tx side not much to do there and on the rx side there isn't such a huge reason to create separate sections for it outside of radios because positioning one or more receivers/antennas is pretty trivial. It is the actual features and usage of programming of radios as well as all other radio related stuff that we see discussed and I still think that all belongs together because frequency usage and variances in 2.4ghz technology are quickly going to become "transparent". In other words how many users really know or even need to know how a pulse translates from their stick to an rx then servo? Most don't know or care. It just works. People just want things to work and figure out how to get the job done.
That said...I don't think poker is dead! We have been sensitive about site loading speeds and have not wanted to detriment user experience during our busiest months by loading down with the overhead created by the poker game. Summer tends to slow down a bit so my thinking is to use some spare cpu cycles for poker during those slower months where most are outside. I'm sure most appreciate a faster loading site in exchange for no poker this past winter or at least hope they do

I see you point about 2.4 and your right on there..but your thinking that poker brings them in on the slow months..that could be..but
being in Vegas..I bore with it very quickly. On a RC site, I prefer RC related links, items of interest, and informational. I have an idea..that would be kinda novel..and I think you might entertain..
How about a Button for Member Spotlight of the Month...Showcasing maybe a particular member that has submitted some pics, story
of his RC experiences, current models, projects, like/dislikes, flying field, etc. I'm sure in the 500,000 members plus, you could be
many interesting resumes..

Actually I wasn't thinking of bringing more people in because it was slow. It was because our server loads get too high from poker play and it slows the rest of the site down for all members from the brute force on our cpu's. So what I was saying was that during the slower months where our servers are not loaded (lower cpu) we could use those spare cycles to have poker and not worry about the rest of the site slowing down for browsers. Server capacity issue in other words.
Your other idea is an interesting one. We do a photo of the moment on rcu homepage which I think people like. I know those who are selected for it love it and are flattered by it.

Mark, I love the photo of the moment and have over a dozen randomly coming up. I print the page out and pass them out to
our members at the field..
I know RCU has galleries, and blogs, but with so many..it is hard to find an interesting or complete story on a unique/experienced or even a beginners view of the hobby. I would love to hear a story of a one who came up thru the ranks to get to IMAC and beyond..what worked for them, or even a beginner who has deciphered out all the RC info that is there and what decision they have made, selecting, purchasing, building, flying, racing..etc. It would be added bonus to talk about their field..ways that it works for their club or not, dues, organized events, etc..something we can all share..
Please include me as one of the 1st Charter members on this Member Spotlight and I'll gladly share my view/pics/experiences in the HObbY for last 3 years.
