So would a moderator be so kind as to tell us why the thread disappeared?

Even if they were it would not matter under the new rules, and even at that, I don't think the guy who posted the ad was a comp arf rep or employee??

They are a non-advertiser and non-supporter of rcu and are allowed only ONE per month. The last one was made on 4/23. Their next post would be 5/23 if there are no others since 4/23

They certainly have no problem with full page ads in the print magazines but would not pay here to support RCU.

Ghost rider,

I posted a thread a couple of days ago letting people know of the new jet from Comp-ARF.

Marc finally managed to get a PM to me to apologise that he had found a bug and that I had never received any mails notifying me of moved/deleted threads or the 'one a month' advertising rules.

As a rep I now understand the rules and will stick by them.

However, having said that, SJN has nothing to do with Comp-ARF so I'm not sure why his post was moved.

Does this now mean that no new product can be mentioned by anyone....ever [X(]

Rgds,
Mark

Guys, here is the position that RCU is taking:

Well...let me ask you this. How do you know that this plane exists? Was it from the post that the comp-arf rep made that was not allowed? Comp-arf continues to try and plug products over what is allowed in our "new" rules and also refuses to advertise with RCU. They apparently are doing this because they are getting buzz against RCU rules, such as this thread. What other reason could there be when they choose to advertise full page color in print but not spend any dollars on advertising on RCU where RCU garners more jet and giant scale modelers than those magazines by far.

Technically when we post even this thread it is allowed but if we found out about it from the post that was against the rules then in legal terms your post is "fruit from the poisonous tree" with the poisonous tree being the post that was made but should not have been in the first place.

FWIW guys, the jet looked like junk for $3,000.00 anyway. It's worth in my opinion about half that.

Also keep in mind that if we allow unfettered advertising in the forums without rules the discussions will be a spamfest of one upmanship that never ends. We even limit paying advertisers to one announcement every 2 weeks to stop this from occuring. It is knows that very few companies put out 24 products a year besides the biggest (hobbico/GP/Horizon/H9 for example) and most don't even put out close to 12 products a year so our rule is VERY fair to both advertisers and non-advertisers.

We have plenty of opportunity for anybody who wants to promote to run an ad campaign here just as they do in the magazines. 70% of our users say they click on ads here and considering the size of the audience here the only reason I can fathom that a company would pay for full page color ads in magazines with less circulation than RCU has visitors is that they figure they can get it for free.

I will state that I don't believe this flurry of posts by schroedm were intentionally and knowingly made to break any rules here. He is aware of them now and will abide by them but there are still other reps/employees/pilots that must follow the rules. A post by any of them announcing a new product counts towards their 1 per month NON-advertisers quota.

Am I missing something here (hope I am[sm=tired.gif])[sm=confused.gif]

Is it really so that that we as RCU users can not discuss a plane (or any other pruduct for that matter) if the manufacturer/ dealers of the product does not advertise at RCU?

No it's not that at all. If it's brought up by a non rep, we talk it all day long.

Thanks Sean.

But SJN is no rep., so why was his thread deleted...[sm=confused.gif]

I too saw the new plane on the C-arf page today, and was planning to post it here on RCU today, but SJN beat me to it...

"Modelers" who are not reps, sponsored, employees of companies that do business in this hobby can talk about ANYTHING RC related without ANY restrictions anytime.

Only companies, reps, sponsored pilots, employees, etc have restrictions in place to limit the in forum advertising. A few months ago they could not post announcements for new products at all in the forums. We then amended the rule so a non-advertiser could post 1 announcement/news per month and advertisers could do one every 2 weeks.

Without RCU's advertisers our lights shut off remember so please support those who make this site possible. Our intention is not to limit the flow of information between modelers but we do need to temper the "push" of ads within the discussions by those who have financial interests at heart.

well, im certinly not a rep for anyone.

I found the only pics I have ever seen of this plane on the comp arf site, and displayed them here.
If I made the post without pics, nobody would have a clue of which jet I was talking about.

So we cant use pics from a manufactures website ?

I do not know who/why SJN post was deleted. If he is not a rep and not "shilling" so to speak it should be no problem. It was not me who removed it so will have to look into it.

All I can say about me is that there is no boudaries to my Hypocracy. Today I'm passionate about not allowing a company to circumvent the RCU ad policies.

Tomorrow I may be talking about my friends new RC company. I'm particularly passionate about seeing Composite ARF get hammered on just about any level as they have made doing business with them so difficult to do. After what Gregg had to do to get gear for his Euro correct, and I never did get another canopy I wanted after emailing their office four times and sending emails to four reps that never got answered.

Plus, in my opinion that airplane light thing is just JUNK compared to others in the same class, that verticle stab is UGLY.

as I said...I don't know why his post was removed. looking into it. it could have been for a good reason in the mods opinion based on info they had or just simply that an error was made.

Marc,

Maybe while you are looking into why SJN's post was removed, you can also tell me why mine was removed. I am not a rep for any company, yet you (or one of your mods) chose to delete my post in it's entirity and not even tell me why.

The second post I made asked why my first had been removed, was met with your reply:

The thread in question was removed because the new thread created announcing the product made exceeded the 1 per month rule.
You obviously did not read my thread before you posted on it (and you subsequently locked). The question related to MY thread, not Marc's or SJN's. The first line of my post was

Now my thread has been removed with absolutely no notification or explanation.
and not 'Why was Marc's post removed?' or 'Why was SJN's post removed?'

But thanks for locking that post too without giving me an answer.

If you read the threads where I explained all this you would note that there is a bug where the PM notifications upon removal are not being sent. In all likelihood if a thread was removed by a moderator (and I did not remove yours by the way) they also sent a notice to you with a reason as that is how the system works. for some reason all of a sudden these notices are not going through although to the sender (moderators) all appears to be fine when they send. I am still looking into this but this is very odd since there have been zero code changes on the templates that involve these routines.

I may reboot all our systems to see if it is a memory leak glitch or something. I apologize to anyone who got deleted though and did not receive a notice/reason due to this bug but please be patient as I troubleshoot it.
