Someone is using MY Screen Name and Avatar!
#1
Hello, there are posts on RCU by someone else using my Screen Name and Avatar? What can I do about this? The guy seems legitimate, but its my screen name? Computer problems?
Who do I contact with RCU? I couldn't find a "help" email address where I could speak directly to someone.

Scott,
First off you can send a PM to either Plane Insane ir RCAdmin. They are the admins of the site and they can help
Second, the RCU software would not normally allow a duplicate username to be created although the spelling could be slightly different. When you contact the admins, you will need to tell them the username involved and there is no need to post it in here
A quick username search only shows one HelloScott with that spelling

Send me a Private Message with the details of what you've found... posts, emails, etc. and I'll look into it. In the mean time, you may want to consider changing your password as a first step.

Oh, I don't care about the Avatar or Screen Name from a copyright standpoint...its just that I wouldn't think that RC Universe's registration would allow the same screen name.

that post is from 1/2004. could have been a crossed id on the post so it shows as yours. at one point our forum id's were not matching the main site and all those issues have long been fixed. it wasn't a security issue at the time. just that signup on the main part of the site was not concurrently writing the proper userid into the forum member database. there was a temporary glitch which could have caused similar issue since then but we manually went in to insert proper id's for a couple hundred members only. again this would not pose a security issue.
as a general rule of thumb you should change your password every so often anyway for just about every site you use. a combo of letters and numbers is good with some upper/lower case and write it down because everyone forgets it seems

Thanks for the advice. I'll change my password.
It was still strange that RCU notified me of "new post" and the link directed me to that post. Strange since it was so old. But, computers are computers I guess.
Thanks for your help,
Scott

Well, seeing someone tried to copy my username and try to impersonate me as well, you have to know how to recreate the name with little or no visual differences. make sure that instead of L's they used I's, or any other visual differences. Also make sure your password is not something obvious or in bare sight.
