Hi everyone,
I’m new to the forum and wanted to ask a few beginner-level questions:
Quick intro: After a short amount of time practicing on the Liftoff simulator—where I managed to maintain altitude, fly low, and pull off some basic maneuvers—I’ve decided it’s time to take the quad I built out for real-world flights.
Thanks!

- Should I start flying without goggles?
My thinking is it might be a good idea to get a feel for how the quad behaves during the first flights. If so, at what point would you recommend switching to goggles? I feel like after a few flights, flying without goggles actually limits me in terms of spatial orientation. - Battery and motor issues:
After just four sessions, I crashed quite a few times and ended up damaging both the battery and the motor. - Fear of crashing:
I feel like my fear of crashing is holding me back from progressing. Do you think this is common for beginners? How do you push past it? - Saving on costs:
I know this is an expensive hobby, but I figure as I improve, I’ll spend less on repairs. For now, though, I’d appreciate any tips on saving costs as a beginner. For context, I’m flying quads that cost between $300 and $500. I currently have two quads because I didn’t want crashes to prevent me from practicing consistently. Are there any alternative approaches or money-saving tips you’d recommend?
Thanks!
