Does the old Simple seven have an onboard memory battery ? Just a debate here, I doubt it.

We call it the Simple. It's prior to the Super but looks almost like it. A club member has one and doesn't know if it has the battery. Yes, it did have a "memory backup" on the main board. If it didn't, whenever you removed your transmitter battery, all of your settings would have disappeared.
