18MZA software update 2.4 fails
Hello Bax
I've tried several times to run this update, with no success.
Here's what happens:
1. Downloaded the v2.4 update file from the Futaba software page to my PC's HD
2. Then copied that file to an almost-empty 8 GHz San Disk SD card
3. Mounted the SD in the 18MZ and moved the update switch to "up" position
4. Powered up the 18MZ
5. The "T18MZ SOFTWARE UPDATE" screen appeared, instructing me to "Push the edit dial or any direct key to start the update".
6. When I push the edit dial, the screen shows "The update of the main program Now Writing"
7. But... after about 1/2 second... the screen message changes to "Update failure The update files are not found"
I went through this sequence several times, always with the same result.
I then tried some diagnostics:
1. Thinking that the update instructions may have omitted a step to unzip the file before running it, I took the SD back to the computer and ran a file extract. That took several minutes and produced some more files on the SD, but back in the 18MZ it still behaved exactly as in steps 4 thru 7 above.
2. Thinking that the SD card may be malfunctioning in the 18MZ (although it has worked fine up till now), I tried copying the current model file to it (Airplane/Model Copy/ Destination=SD), which worked fine.
ref: This is 18MZ s/n 120502255
So, I'm stumped. Any ideas?
Regards
Dawg

RE: 18MZA software update 2.4 fails
Sorry, can't edit my last post but wanted to say..
Try formatting the SD card on your computer in FAT - not FAT 16
Then put the empty card in your TX and it should offer to "format" it again.
Then put the update files on the SD card and try again..
I have to do it this way with my 8FG otherwise it won't see the updates.

Unzip the file that gets downloaded. THEN copy ONLY the folder named "UPDATE" to the SD card. I have all my saved models, images, etc. in the other folders on my SD card. Now need to use an empty card.
Bottom line, Unzip the downloaded file first. Also, do not use a "High-speed" SD card.

Gentlemen...
Many thanks for your prompt and useful advice... problem is now solved!
Only puzzle is why I got stuck this time... been updating this thing since new, over a year ago... first time I've got hung up.
Perhaps geezerhood has struck LoL!
