Default No Range when using a Futaba 12k

Sounds like this unit has a manufacturing issue but perhaps someone may be able to offer some advice particularly as I am far from a repair center.

I have a new aircraft and a brand new Futaba 12K system. We got it all fitted and at close range all worked well. But when a range check was conducted nothing worked with the green light on the receiver changing to red. More checks followed and we found the green light would flick to red when the transmitter was moved about. If you moved about 8-10 feet away then no signal was received.

I thought it must be an antennae issue and so took the back off the transmitter but the antenna cable was firmly connected to the board and without any damage being new. The receiver antennas were both intact and all batteries fully charged and operational. All aircraft systems checked ok without any binding or abnormalities.

So could anyone shed any light or have any idea of just why this new radio set is not working as it should.

Both antennas intact simply referred to the receiver that came with the set (the R3008SB) and which has never been used or flown. It has the two small antennas coming out of the base and “intact” just referred to the fact that it’s brand new with no damage, modifications etc.

well,

short of just sending the tx/rx to a service center for checkout, you can,

find another futaba tx to try to link your rx to and also try to find another rx to try to link to your tx.

that might tell ya some more about what is happening.

Thanks and yes, it’s a strange one and not something you’d expect to see when using a new set, particularly from a reputable manufacturer. I’ve tried most things but without success so hoped possibly that some Futaba expert might have some clues as to why or what might be a cause.

Unfortunately I live in New Zealand where getting these things serviced isn’t easy but something is obviously wrong so I’ll keep at it. Appreciate your input though.

Have you tried to contact Brian Simpson in Perth, Australia - he is your "local" Futaba distributor ?

No, but thank you for that information. We might try to contact him though that’s a long way from NZ. Just a pity there isn’t a rep that’s a bit closer but I really appreciate your reply.
