Default FF7CP and FP HB problem

Hi All,
My first post here and unfortunately it has to be a plea for help (I've also posted in the general radio section before noticing the Futaba specific section here)

I have just bought a Futaba T7CP tx and I am trying to set it up with my brushless fixed pitch Hummingbird but with no success.
Heli setup is:
GWS Hummingbird 4 channel reciever
Full brushless main and tail motor
2 * GWS servos
Futaba GY240 gyro (HH mode)
2 * CC10 esc's
Lipo's

I've setup the tx to model H1, which I think is correct, or at least that's closest to what the Hummingbird is.
I've set gyro to (GY) which I think is head holding
I've changed the end points on all 4 channels to 90% from 100%
Using the GWS tx crystal in the Futaba (tx and rx frequencies the same)
TX set to PPM
and that's about it.

What happens is I switch on the tx then the heli, at this point the main esc emits it's usual 4 beeps but the led does not light up, so I'm not sure if it's armed or waiting for the tail esc. The tail esc does not arm even with the stick pushed full left (which I need to do with the GWS tx). Neither of the sevos move with stick inputs, it just sits there as if it is dead.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have struggled with the manual which seems to assume a certain amount of prior knowledge, so an idiots guide to setting it up with a FP heli would be great.
BTW If I swap back the crystals to the GWS tx, all works as normal.

Many thanks,
Dave
