Default 14MZ/FX-40 question about mixing

Hi,

I was wondering if the 14MZ/FX-40 allows for multiple input mixes like the multiplex profi 4000? i.e. multiple controls as the master for a mix?

Also from what i gather so far, the output of the mix can be assigned to either another channel or to the servo directly, am I correct in my understanding of this?

Thanks for your assistance

You can set up mixers in the 14MZ so that different channels affect a single channel. You could have flaps adjust the elevator to eliminate trim changes when you apply flaps, and also have the rudder affect elevator when you perform knife-edge flight. If both mixes were on at the same time, though, the results may not be satisfactory. However, you can have multiple mixes with different "master" channels control the same "slave" channel.

We're not sure what you mean when you ask if the output of a mix can go to another "channel or the servo directly". The mixers mix functions, not particular channels. The output of a mixer is a function, not a particular channel or servo, unless the function is controlling only one channel. Each channel controls a single servo output (unless you have several servos on that channel via "Y" cables or the like...then all of those servos act as that channel acts--you won't be able to control them individually).

Hi - from Chiangmai Thailand - this is off your subject - but I wonder if you would mind telling me on this forum if there is a Futaba servicing facility in Malaysia or Singapore ? I have a 9ZAP that needs some care and attention. Thanks. MalcolmL

Thanks for the lead to Singapore Hobby Supplies. They've been serving the RC flyers well for decades - I used to be a customer of theirs when I worked and lived part time in Singapore in the late 1970s and 1980s. If my memory serves me right, the lead man there was named Johnny ? I'll be contacting SHS shortly as I'm also planning a visit there in the near future. I'm a little surprised that Fook Hai Building where there shop is/was has not been demolished and replaced by a sky tower - or maybe it has - and is still called Fook Hai !

Do you have an email address for SHS please ?

Thanks again. Malcolm Logan

MalcomL,

Their website is www.singahobby.com , and their email is [email protected]

Your memory is very good, Johnny is the lead man, and his son Frederick is the "2nd man" now. I suggest that you call them though, as they sometimes are unable to reply emails promptly.

Fook Hai is still standing proudly, I was just there last weekend, and Johnny was pushing me on the FX-40, which is why i posted this question LOL

Thanks again, MF ! I probably knew Johnny's son Frederick when he was a kid hanging around the shop. And I'm glad to learn that Johnny himself is still going strong and look forward to renewing old acqaintances soon. I'll take a look at the website you prvided and then give Johnny a call when I firm up my visit plans to S'pore.

Incidentally, I also used to visit an RC model shop in a shopping mall in Jln Imbi - up a floor or two - opposite Pudu Jail (gone now ?) - near what was the Regent where I used to stay and which was later renamed the Park Royal ? He was also a very good guy. I used to go and watch the flying with friends at a disused gravel pit (?) site - it seemed to be all gritty red sand ! Towards PJ ? I'm not sure about that. Another RC spot was at the air base named ??? with a runway very near a road. I also was friendly with the 5 Brothers (less than 5 now !) who were big in RC cars and had the shop R.A.C.E. And a circuit - but I am not into cars although they tried hard to convert me.

Where do you fly now in KL ? Mal;colm Logan Chiangmai Thailand

Default RE: 14MZ/FX-40 question about mixing

Hi Malcom, just thought you should know, that there is a "hardcore Futaba shop" in Bangkok, those were the exact words used by an American friend of mine who travels between Phuket and KL often. according to him, that shop has everything Futaba, perhaps that may be an easier option for you than Singapore. Its probably one of the guys on the list that Krysta has very kindly provided. Good luck dude!![8D]

By the way, Frederick is an awesome flyer now, one of the benefits of the father owning a hobby shop i guess. He has a custom built 2m pattern ship made for him by OK models just for competition flying internationally, with an electric counter-rotating prop setup!!!! And of course he flies futaba exclusive ly, so field support is always readily available. As for the shops in Malaysia you mentioned, R.A.C.E. is still around, and the shops at Imbi have moved to a place called Amcorp Mall in PJ. There is limited support for Futaba here, mainly from the "heli king" of Malaysia as he is a Futaba man all the way, but basically all the shops here will go through Singapore Hobby for anything Futaba. Do feel free to contact me if you need any more local info, and I will do my best to get it to you.

Hi MF - thanks again for all your input. It shows how much I've been out of touch since I stopped flying 4 years ago that Bangkok Hobby has become a "hardcore Futaba shop". Many years back, I used to help the then owner - a retired RTAF (Royal Thai Air Force) Officer - build up his RC business which was based at the Don Muang RC field. I wrote his letters to overseas RC suppliers and translated their replies for him. We were responsible for establishing the method of importing glowfuels with the Customs department in the days when the only way to buy glowfuel was to buy the local ingredients (castor/methanol) and mix it up yourself ! If you had a contact in the chemicals import business, so much the better - then you might persuade him to supply you with small quantities of nitro. That RTAF officer died a few years ago, the business was taken oveer and went into decline, then the field was closed (to make a golf course !) and the business moved away. About that time, I quit too and moved to Chiangmai. Well, that's enough of the RC history .....

Thanks for the heads up about Bangkok Hobby - I'll establish contact with the new owners and see if I can have my Tx serviced here in Thailand. Happy Landings. Malcolm Logan

Default RE: 14MZ/FX-40 question about mixing

Hi Krysta - thanks for your exhaustive list of worldwide Futaba distributors. I phoned the two names for Thailand and asked if they do any kind of servicing themselves on Futaba equipment they sell ? The answers in both cases was a firm - NO ! They send anything that needs servicing or fixing to Japan ! This is the same situation that existed 30 years ago when I first came to Thailand - so nothing has changed !!! You may wish to make a note in your files that neither Bangkok Hobby nor Siam Tamiya can offer any service or repair facilty for Futaba products - other than sending back to Japan - just sales !

Until about 3 years ago, I used to visit the US every year to fly in events there and used to send my 9ZAP in for servicing then. Now I have to consider sending it to Singapore - which is yet another country - to Singapore Hobby Supplies on your list. That's nearer than Japan - and I used to buy RC stuff from them when I was working there.

In my Futaba file, I note that we last exchanged emails 28 Aug 2000 about servicing my 9ZAP. I want to thank you for your continueing support of Futaba users over the years. It's much appreciated - thank you.

Malcolm Logan
