There has been some confusion about wether or not this 12 FGA is native 2.4 (little antenna on top) or if it uses a module -- it uses a module. The 12 FGA can use any module on any frequency for which a 12z/14MZ module is available -- including 2.4 Ghz...

Will the 12FG have the same ability to update the firmware that the 12z and 14MZ have?

Yes, you can purchase any SD card you like and update it with it. The SD card slot is located in the battery compartment.
