NiMH Batteries
Can I use 8-cell 9.6V NiMH batteries for my Futaba 3PM 2.4GHz transmitter? The manual says optional battery should be Nicd, but I prefer NiMH.
I'm looking at the Hobbico HydriMax 9.6V 1650mAh NiMH Flat U Sanyo. Is this okay?

RE: NiMH Batteries
Hi kilana,
I am sorry, Futaba recommends NiCd batteries only in the 3PM 2.4GHz.
I hope you find this information helpful. You can also reach our Futaba support technical team at 217-398-8970, or via fax at 217-398-7721.

RE: NiMH Batteries
I find it somewhat disturbing that Futaba will not support using another manufacturers product in their transmitters such as ni-mh batteries because they don't have one available them selves. It seems that your answer is always if its not ours don't use it. I see absolutely no reason for not using ni-mh's in your transmitter. I use a set of 2100 mahr batteries in my 9CAP because the 700 mahr pack simply doesn't last long enough between charges. Futaba makes a great product and most of us know that you can use others receivers, servos and batteries interchangably with absolutely no degradation in performance.

Thanks for your response, Krysta.
Futaba recommends Ni-Cd's for this 3pm 2.4GHz transmitter only? Or is that for all Futaba transmitters? And can you tell me why only Ni-Cds.

RE: NiMH Batteries
Like any manufacturer, Futaba recommends the stock replacement battery packs they make. The system was originally designed with NiCd cells because those were the best available for Futaba's purpose at the time. They have not designed/made other types of battery packs for that system. This would apply throughout their line. As the service center, we can only recommend (and warranty) original stock Futaba equipment. Use of non-Futaba components would be at the decision (and risk) of the user.
