Default 3154 Servo Jittering?

I just bought 4 Digital Futaba 3154 servos. I have one of them that jitters or continously searches for center when powered on. I have tried different channels on the receiver, a different reciever, and tried both 4.8V and 5.9 volts. Is there anything else I can try before sending this back to Tower?

Thanks,
Patrick

How does the servo behave with a little bit of load upon it? Many digital servos have a tight deadband, which means that they will 'hunt' a bit because of the slight play in the geartrain. Add the load of a control surface, and it goes away.

This is acting just the opposite of what you describe. With no load it does not hunt. When installing it into the Reactor Bipe to the rudder when the control surface tries to return to neutral (center) it hunts all over the place, like someone is just moving the control left and right continuously. If you touch the control surface it usually stops.

Thanks,
Patrick

This sounds like some kind of difficulty in the servo/linkage/control surface installation. That would mean that the entire system is preventing the servo from finding a center (or position), and it overshoots where it needs to go. Sometimes a hingeline that's not quite in good alignment will cause a bit of "over the center" tension. That would make it hard for the servo to find the proper center. A too-stiff linkage or hinging would also make it difficult for the servo to get a good center. Add to this a servo that has a very precise center with little deadband and you have the effect you describe.

I'm having a similar problem. When I connect the battery, the ailerons go wild and flutter REAL BAD! When I load them, it stops. I have no problems with the others. Any thoughts?

Your servos need to be checked out. Unloaded digital servos may have a small amount of chatter or hum, but should not have much jitter to make control surfaces be active.
