Are the TM7 and TM8 modules the same?

I opened my TM7 module and found that it seems to be exactly as the TM8 module, it even includes the second switch to select from 7 to 8 channels, my question is: Would the TM7 work with 8 channels just by fliping this switch just like the TM8 module?
I know that it may void the waranty and may not be legal in the USA but here in Mexico we dont have any legal isue so if it works I can use it.
