Old Futaba radio - can I use it?
How do I know if my old Futaba FP-T4L is ligit to use with the narrow band requirements? The radio works great, has plenty of range and all the original servos and receiver work well too. I want to use this radio in a kit plane I built but am unsure if it fits the narrow band requirements. Thanks.

RE: Old Futaba radio - can I use it?
Your Futaba 4L transmitter would not be legal to use unless it has a small, gold "AMA RF Check" on it, usually on the back or bottom. If it does not have such a label, then it would not be legal to use, and it's doubtful that it can be updated to become legal. We no longer service that particular model of transmitter because it's just too old, and there are no parts available for it any more. It is no longer supported by Futaba, either.
However, if it's on 27 MHz, then it's legal to use. Otherwise, it belongs in an honored place on the trophy shelf, and a more modern transmitter should be used for actual flying.
