Default Expo and offset

Thanks for the reply to my other question. I have figured out how to program 3 different rates on a 3 position switch using 3 functions. My new question is when I set up these 3 flight conditions I also programmed in expo to tame down the rates around center stick. What I've never encountered on any other radio is this, when programing in expo on my new 12Z it introduces an offset into the control surface that I then need to program out with the offset adjustment. Is this normal or is there some other way to program in expo without introducing offset?
Also I really like the timer versatilely on the 12Z. As an electric only flyer it will ultimately save me money. My only wish would be that the user would have the option via programing of resetting or having the count continue when the transmitter power is cycled.
Thanks,
Luckyflyer

What a dummie I'am. Page 123 of the manual explains it perfectly.
