Default FASST module and multiple planes

Im only a year into RC so I dont know alot yet so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I've been flying airplanes till now but am wanting to get into helicopters. A club member has a nice combo deal for me that includes the Futaba 8 channel heli radio. I also want to go into 2.4ghz so i was going to buy this set from him and later upgrade it with a FASST module.

Another member had said that when you use the module, you have to bind any time you change to different craft. Another member uses JR and he said that it was only a matter of making sure you had the correct model selected in my radio since it would recognize and operate any receiver of mine that was on.

I can handle checking model because i have to do that now with my 72mhz system. This is a really good deal I am getting but i wanted to make sure it was just a matter of making sure i had the correct model selected and not some other drawn out process.

Thanks.

Is the radio your looking at a Futaba 8U radio. If so the 8U has been off the market for about 5 years or longer now. Futaba will still service it if you need to send it in to Hobby Services. The Futaba 9C replaced the Futaba 8U & 8Us. Now current day the 9C has been replaced by the 10C.
If you choose to buy the 8U there worth around $125.00 at the most. Make sure the 8U has been sent in for service. It can still be upgraded to the 8Ch Fasst 2.4 module and receiver. I think the only RX's you can use with the 8U 2.4 module is the R607FS, R617FS and maybe the R608FS in Fasst 2.4
Anyway the 8U is a great radio, no complaints there its just that its outdated now since the Fasst 2.4 has spread. I have owned the 8U, 9C and now the 10C. Over all my 10C with the ease of the programing, set up tip is alot shorter.
The 8U does have a after market probram book and will really help you in setting up your Heli or Plane. The book was written by Harry Higley and is very well layed out. If the guy that has the 8U radio, wont inclued the programing book. I strongly suggest trying to find one on the internet or check with Tower Hobbies.
Good luck

If the 8-channel transmitter is one of the Futaba 8U-series transmitters, you just install the 8-channel TM-8 module and you can use any Futaba FASST aircraft receiver. Each receiver will need to be linked to the transmitter at forst, but they will always stay linked to the transmitter. So if you use different models that are saved in the transmitter, each one that was previously-linked will still be linked when you change models. You don't re-link each time you change models.

However, any receiver that's linked to the transmitter will operate if it and the transmitter are both on, even if that receiver is installed in a different model than the one selected on the transmitter. That's just the same situation we've always had with the older R/C channels.

If your transmitter is an older 8-channel unit, then it will not accept a modern TM-8 FASST transmitter module.

Thank you. The re-linking was the main question I had. This radio is a T8UHPS so it looks as if it will accept the upgrade.

Thanks again for the reply.
