Default Choosing the right engine

Hello,

I'm starting to build the BH Gilmore Red Lion 50cc ARF and I wonder what engine to choose.
Being on a tight budget, what would you chose between:

1) GF55II 55cc twin
2) MT 70cc Twin
3) DLE-55 55cc

The plane weight is aprox. 13 lbs.

Thank you !

PS: I read all the debates (well, almost) regarding the above mentioned engines.

well if you already read the debates, you know by now that the DLE 55 is the most reliable engine on your list.and probably the lease expensive.

I bought the DLE 55cc from Tower Hobbies for $410 - $60 member's coupon for total of $350. I ran close to three gallons of fuel 32:1 mix thru the engine so far and no deadsticks. I recommend to choke on first start with ignition on then choke off and then real start. Otherwise with choke on and ignition off like in the manual, the engine can become flooded. I'm very happy with the engine, had it run with suboptimal needles setting and it just chugged along. Vertical on 21lb plane is unlimited but not ballistic. I don't have the other engines so I can't compare but I'm 100% happy with the dle 55cc engine.

+1 on the DLE

I do reccomend proper tuning, running a gasser rich doesn't do anything positive for the engine

DA 50 OR MVVS 40
Interestingly and despite the difference in displacement, both engines have similar power.
For a nice scale project like the Gilmore, I would personally stick with something like the MVVS rather than the DLE55 some have suggested. You will get better low-down torque out of the MVVS which in my book lends itself better to scale applications. If you stick a pipe on the 40, you will also get a very nice quiet setup (if there is any such thing)
I'm in no way knocking the DLE, it's just my personal view.

Hello - what muffler do you recommend for a scale look if using the MVVS 40 ? I'm lost between product numbers and codes on mvvs.nl.

Thank you.

Pe Reivers is without doubt best placed to give you information on that but I have used JTec mufflers on my smaller MVVS like the 26cc with great results.

Check out petrol engines in the left info bar
Then select the item you want in the top shop bar.
