Making Your Own 1 Gallon Fuel Can
There seems to be a bunch more newbies coming on board with the introduction of the JBA 15G and DLE 20 small gas engines - me included. I wanted a cheap 1 gallon gas can for use at the field and most of the ones I saw were 2 or more gallons and expensive. Well I made myself an inexpensive one and thought I would share.
It starts out with a cheap $7 1 gallon can from Lowes, a Briggs and Stratton gas cap from Lowes, some brass tubing, a gas rubber stopper, tygon fuel line, fuel filter, some super sticky double sided tape, some left over parts from some glow fuel tanks and your choice in a manual or electric fuel pump.
***NOTE*** The large brass tubing is 5/32 and not 3/32 as indicated in the attachments.

Where did you get the super sticky double sided tape?

That is about what I did for a gas can with crank pump. I used bulkhead fittings I had...to eliminate the gas stopper. Super simple too. Capt,n

I forgot to say...if you use bulk-head fittings....put them in through next to the cap and not in the cap. That makesputting fuel in is much more easy!. Capt,n

The cap is the big problem, now they have switched to those awful safety things its just ridiculous. I had made a cap from an old cap, but now its split, so I'm going to Lowes and get one of those B&S gas caps!

Great info on the B&S cap fitting the Blitz can.
Now y'all watch - there's gonna be a run on B&S gas caps at Lowes and they'll be out of stock for the next 4 months. [sm=lol.gif]
Great write up. Thanks for taking the time.

I'm more of a Home Depot guy, but had to go to Lowes to get that B&S cap. Thanks for the info. Without it I would still be having issues.

RE: Making Your Own 1 Gallon Fuel Can
I went to Lowes today and after looking and looking I found two of the B &S caps and they were the only caps the store had..
But the cap is not pefect as it has the image of a gas pump and hose on the outer surface in the middle and on the inside there is a cup shape. The outer surface is also sunken so there is not a square surface for mounting individual bulk head fittings.
Probably the best way to use it is with the Dubro gas cap assembly as shown in the first post?
Or you could put it in a milling machine and face off the top in the center and the cup on the inside?
The caps fit the threads on the Blitz cans perfect.

I guess they got deleted some how.
I've used mine all last year. The double sided tape didn't last long on the pump but that was OK as it was a bit awkward to use that way.
Oh, and the brass tubing is 5/32 and not 3/32 as shown in the pics.

RE: Making Your Own 1 Gallon Fuel Can
I took a drive to our lab and asked for 2 x metal fuel sample cans.
I use one can for the run in mix (Mineral) and the other for running mix (synthetic)

i used a powermaster glow fuel can... and some leftover rustoleum "saftey red" and dubro fittings.. works ok for me... I made it just for my DLE 20 [8D] my bigger gassers would gulp that up in a couple of good flying days

these are good BH fittings http://www.aircraftinternational.com...8/Default.aspx
as are these http://www.centralhobbies.com/Fuel/fittings.htm they are a hair on the small size, and prefer to use the smallest zip ties to be on the safe side when using them on 1/8" i.d. gas line

Captin, I was wondering if you could post a picture of your bulkhead fittings and tell me where you got it. I would like to be able to to make a new can myself and something like that would help a lot. I have done it through the cap and agree that refilling is easier if the cap does not contain the fuel lines.
Thanks,
Brian
