Default prop size question

Went out today to enjoy some beautiful eastern North carolina weather and fly the Wildhare Edge 540 that I just got with a TOC-53 gas engine on it. The guy I bought it from had a Evolution 24x10 prop on it.The engine has an MTW canister and starts and runs like a dream. It will tick over at an unreal low idle but once in the air, I just couldn't get any good rpm's out of it.It was just too much prop for the engine. I know that the prop is too large for this engine, I just need to know what prop is best for this engine and IMAC style flying. Thanks for the help.

A 50 size engine usually runs a 22 X 8

The 3mm 53 turns slighly less RPM that the average 50 but it has a little more torque. I would not use anything larger than a 23" prop, and the Evolution prolly isn't the best cut for the engine. So a 23-8 in another brand if you are looking for peak rpm. A 22-8 would probably be better still. I'll suggest a laminated wood Xoar as a good start.

If you have a drill press, the prop washer is a good drill guide
