G62 mid-range problem
#1
I have a g62 where the entire carb is out in the breeze. Runs great on the ground. In the air it idles fine and the upper half is fine. However it is difficult to get a good low-mid speed while in the air. It seems to want to idle or be too fast. I have done some research on this problem and have read about altering the carb diaghram vent plate. I ran the vent into the fuse and that did not help. I then introduced it to the air intake area as shown in the photo. This worked very well. I reset the low end needle to a proper setting without too much difficulty. However, the high end needle seemed to make almost no difference in the rpm no matter where I set it. I backed it out till I was affraid that it would fall out with little rpm change. If I turned it in, it never seemed to peak, but it would drop off if I went too far.
What is my problem? Am I missing something? I did try running it again with the modified cover without the tygon and the high end needle seemed to respond a little better, but it still didn't seem quite right. I have not tried the velocity stack route yet. Any help would greatly be appreciated
The motor has about 5 gallons through it and idles at about 1600 and the top end is about 6900(seems a little low?)with a Zinger 22x8.
Thanks

The high and low speed needles in a gasser carb are completely separate. Each has its own passageway from the fuel chamber under the main diaphragm.....The low speed needle, if too rich will affect the high, but not the other way around...An engine will run with the low needle way too far open, but then the high needle needs to be almost completely closed, and the mid range will be way rich....
