Default which gas engine do i need

hey everyone. i'm getting ready to build an anderson kingfisher airplane that has a 108" wingspan, 49" fuselage, and weighs in at about 16 1/4 lbs ready to fly, according to the plans. it also calls for a .90 2-stroke or 1.20 4-stroke. i'm looking to use a gasser instead of nitro, and was wondering, if i have enough space for the gasser, what size CC engine should i go with, if they even make them that size. i don't want it grossly over-powered, though.i've never built anything this big before and really know nothing of gassers yet. any help would be appreciated.

For "just enough" flight power, the DLE-20 is a good match. Similar output to the stated OS 1.20 4 stroke.

If you want "a little extra" and to have a bit more fun on that big bird with aerobatics, the DLE-30 would be awesome. That 108" wing will have a lot of drag, and 16 1/4 is a bit of weight, so I'd go this route for a little extra thrust of a larger prop. Just make sure you have the ground clearance for an 18-19" prop or go 3 blade since you'll have lots of power to spare. If you don't want to overpower it though, I'd probably stick with the DLE-20 as even it runs on the high end of the engine specs.

Zenoah G26 would also be a great match, but are a bit more $$ and weigh slightly more.

Hope this helps you! Good luck with the build!

Based on the wingspan and weight I would recommend the DLA32 or the DLE30

Considering 2 key elements you require, space for the engine and NO desire for ripping up the sky, my suggestion is a DLE20cc gasser.
That overhead cowl mounting setup is going to be a big limiter on what fits in it, plus this particular model being a float plane really doen't need excessive power.

The DLE20cc gas engine is like a 1.20 glow on super steroids! You'll have loads of power for scale-like flying.
You'll probably need to go with a 3-bladed prop though, to clear the fuse.

There's an old build thread here on RCU;

DLE20cc gas eng, great support too!

Most all specs & details you'll need to know is in post #1

For others, here's what it looks like......

different gas engines may fill the bill for up to 18 lbs weight:

lower window: 20cc DLE or zenoah

mid end: 26cc zenoah or MVVS 26 on restricting muffler

high end:. any of the 28 - 30cc like DLE 30 , MVVS 26 on tuned pipe, MVVS 30, etc

sweet. i'll dig around some more. i think the plans say other than the .90 2-stroke or 1.20 4-stroke, then a 15cc gasser. that seemed kind of small to me after reading that the plane tries to fall out of the sky like a brickif you pull the throttle back while flying. i've been digging in the plans a little as well to see if i can possibly trim some 'fat' out of the build somewhere. thanks for the help. the DLE 30 isn't that much more than the 20, so that could definitely be an option.
