John,

Fwiw; You might consider a chain saw from Stihl. Right now, if you buy one + a 6 pack of their Stihl HP Ultra (syntheic)
2-cycle oil, the std warranty goes from 2 years to 4 years!

Due to the way the throttle aand choke hooks up on your chainsaw, if you want a larger carb, it is best to buy the specific larger carb for the same brand and style saw so as to have compatibility and ease of installation. (So everything will just bolt on without modification.)

I've been a member on arborist site for a while. The general chainsaw forum has lots of interesting snippets - porting, tuning etc. I'm sure someone there will chime in if you post your question

Buy a Stihl or equivalent brand commercial grade saw and you will not lack for power! Couple it with a well matched bar and a good aggressive chain and you will be amazed at their cutting ability. Unless a guy just wants to tinker, I can't imagine modifying a perfectly good new saw.
