Default reed valve mounting screw RCGF 15

i was about to install the engine on the firewall, and i had to remove the carb at some point.

so far so good, then i noticed the reed valve was hold on the plastic "block" by a 2.5 X 5mm screw from the inside of the crankcase without a nut on the back side.

my thoughts were what about vibration and this screw?

how easy was it for the screw to get unscrewed and sucked inside the engine and make some serious damage?

the engine is new and has not been started yet,but i am seriously thinking to mod a nut on the back side.

do i need to or is it overkill?

No one in recent memory uses a nut on the reed valve screw, no even DA.

FWIW, the DA and 3W reed valves are EXACTLY the same on some models...Small sheet metal screws holding the reeds to the block...

It's into nylon, so is unlikely to unscrew.

You're more likely to lose the nut!

Also, if the screw does back out, I expect it will become a pig to start or may even cut out due to the reed flapping about.

Don't do it

Just put a drop of lock tite on it and you will not have a problem, Just make sure you do not over tighten it or you will warp the reed and have problems running the engines.

Blue Loctite 242 straight from their website:-

Recommended For

Use on metal fasteners 1/4' (6 mm) to 3/4' (19 mm) in diameter such as bolts on small engines, swing sets and furniture

Not Recommended For

Use in pure oxygen and/or oxygen rich systems and should not be selected as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidizing materials
Use on plastic parts, particularly thermoplastic materials where stress cracking of the plastic could result

Also applies to red and green standard varieties.

Do not put lock tight on the threads. Lock tight expands as it cures, this may cause the plastic to crack. We have never had a screw come out in over 2000 engines shipped.
