Anyone running a First Place Engine?
I'm looking for a good USA made 50cc engine and ran across the FPE 3.4ci
[link]http://www.fpengines.com/html/34.htm[/link]
My first choice would be a Taurus TS-52 however they are unavailable and not sure will be made again. I could always use the old stand by, the DA-50, but thought this FPE looked interesting.
Any opinions on FPE engines in general?
Thanks

That's a good point about the side carbs. I'm running a Brillelli 46 in a 16.5# MX-2 right now and can't for the life of me get rid of mid range burble in the air. On the ground it's fine. I'm thinking that any of the three engines I've listed will fly the plane better.

I believe the FPE engines are all based on Echo engines, as is/was the BME line of engines. They are very good engines if so.

Overall these are good dependable engines but you rarely see a new one at a field any more with the Chinese engines becoming so popular, cheap and yes even dependable. I still have a FPE 4.2 in an older Lanier Laser but it has not been in the air for over a year now.

I have an FPE 2.4 engine powering a GP Stearman and it is great. The workmanship is outstanding and the engine is dependable and runs great.
Best wishes and good safe flying.

RE: Anyone running a First Place Engine?
I have a FPE 3.2 a 3.4 and a 4.2. The 4.2 spins a mej 22x10 7350. The 3.4 spins a mej 22X8 at 6750 (engine new) mounted in WW1.
The 3.2 was spinning a mej 21x10 at 7250 and is going back to FPE for a rebuild, it had 15 years of hard flying in many differant airframes.
So everything i can say about FPE engines is all good.
