Default 6.6v servo operation

Hito All
there is many rumores about the servo operating voltage.
some peaple use 7.4v with a regulator to operate the servos
some peaple use the 6.6 life battery to operate the servos.
is it safe to run 6.6v on brand named sevos like hitec savox jr and some chainese ones
will it shorten the servo life if we use 6.6v
thanks
ilan

Depends who you talk too.

Definately LiPo's at 7.4V nominaland 8.4V maximum are going to make a 6V servo jitter and buzz.
however a LiFe 6.6 should not since its voltage is lower than the maximum a 6V NiCAD or NiMH pack puts out (7.2V).

Will the LiFE pack shorten the life of the servo? I don't know. Some say it will ithere say it makes no difference. I would assume that quality branded servo's will be less affected.Using High Voltage servo's of course makes it a non issue

Some have been using unregulated 2 cell lipos on the better Hitec and JR high end servos for the last 6 years. You accept the risk when you do so, but you can alsogenerally reap a reward with a faster and stronger servo. There is no warranty when you do so.

I would not even think of considering it with the low dollar budget Chinese servos. They are cheap for a reason.

I run A123's, best of both worlds, 6v operation speed and torque, no worries about burning servos up (atleast I havent burnt any Hitec, JR, or Futabas up in the last 2 years) and no regulator to add complexity or a failure point to the system.

I get real A123's from WrongWayRC.com and they make a diode drop down so you can run your ignition off them as well. He even offers a variety of connectors.

Plus, they charge quite quickly.

Rich from WrongwayRC is THE man I am finishing my slick with a DLE 30 and I am using a 2300 A123, voltage reducer, opti kill, and smart switch from WrongWay. Plus he spent A LOT of time on the phone with me explaining it all. I run it straight to the receiver with my Hitecs and zero issues

We have 50 flights on a 42% Super Decathlon. It has 10 Futaba digital servos and 2 A123 packs for the receiver/servos with an additional A123 pack for the DA-150 ignition. No problem using A123 batteries without regulators. The radio is a Futaba 10C on 2.4.

ilan, excellent photos at your field. The water drop helicopter might come in handy after the other helicopter starts a brush fire.
