Default Replacement gas engine for CG Extra

My Carl Goldberg Extra is fitted with a G23 and weights 10.5 lbs. which gives the model moderate performance due to it's weight and power of the engine.

Is there any reasonable costing power upgrade available for this engine as the stock engine runs quite well. If not, what would be a good substitute gas engine for this plane for increased performance such as unlimited vertical. Thanks.

He's right! I'm am sold on gas now that I have been flying them for awhile, but that is simply a glow plane. A YS 120 is an awesome performer. If you want rediculous vertical put a YS 1.40 in it. I had both of those two Engines in mine when I had it. If it weighs 10.25 now with a gas it will be much better with a glo, and it will have alot more power. Planes in that size range just aren't designed for gas engines. You really have to get over about 40cc to see any real performance with gas engines...generally speaking...there are a few exceptions though.

You might want to check out the rcs 180, a few of my pattern buddies are running them & say they are great.

Cheapest ??? no such word for modelers.
Glow 1.20 2c is most likely easest.
B.H. Hanson in Las Vegas has a hop up cylinder piston combo for more power.
CH ignition has a conversion to remove weight, 6oz or so.

Deep down I know that a glow engine might be the best bet for this size plane, but I want to get away from the high cost of glow fuel in Jamaica. How about the MVVS 1.6 gas engine.

I just received mine 2 minutes ago(MVVS 1.6), It is going into my DP ultimate. It is a beautiful little motor. I just weighted it with muffler and ignition and it comes out at 2lbs 8 ounces on a dig fish scale..... I can't wait to mount it...
