Hey Andika; that 37 (not 38) was in the market even before the 33; or is a new one?!?!?!?! I don't see any 38 in the site...
In any case; I have only GOOD words for describing the 33 I've at home...

i believe its a new 38cc, based on the 33cc hence the small weight gain. The 37cc wasa bogger block and will be increased to a 42cc or thereabouts, soon.

Looks to me like Mintor has just raised the bar in quality engines in this size range and at a very affordable price. I have heard nothing but good things about them and that price is very good.

Mintor certainly have raised the bar in high quality well priced engines. the 33cc is performing well and the 38 i'm sure will do so too. wanna see quality - how is this for a reed block...... all machined from solid........

Well that's a nice looking piece, but I see two things that bother me. The square edge on the reed stop, and the one piece reed. I would think a more common type reed with two petals would open easier and present less of an intake restriction. Doesn't look like there is any coating on the seat to prevent damage from reed chatter either...

What would be the price of the 38 in USA Dollars? Thanks Capt,n

dimensionally very similar to the 33.
Crank case is 1mm longer and the head is 1mm longer.
Funny then that they can fit the spark plug cap lower at 123mm from the crankcase centre line indicating a shorter stroke than the 33cc.
Cyclinger head on the 38cc is also 10mm bigger in diameter indicating a bigger bore. So not just a bored out 33cc buta completely new cyclinder head. I guess it makes sense since the 33c does not have much meat on it anyways.
Also nice to see they have expanded on the suggested props.
I can see this engine featureing very prominently in my future with gassers</p>

Really like the specified weight of the 38 and the rear carb (finally). I had looked at the 37 3 years ago but just didn't wantto spend the time to install tha goofy carb location in my pattern pane. The rear carb is much better location easier install. Powerwise, if it will haul a 20x12, 21x10 at 7K, it would work well in Pattern. It's the shape of the power curve that's important. Except with this much bore it will have to be seen

Somewhat strange Bore and Stroke specs. ....approximately 2:1 bore to stroke ratio (45mm:23mm). I think you guys will have to play with this one and let me know how it goes.

Having a shorter stroke is not a bad thing if the timing and rotating weight allows for higher rpm to make power.
If it can rev and has good midrange it may be an excellent pattern aerobatics engine.

In the case of the Mintor 38, the reported stroke is only 23 mm....compare that to either the SAP of DLE 30 cc and you'll know what I mean. Their 33cc has a stroke of 27 1/2mm. Maybe they should have used the top end of the 55 and bottom end of the 33. Of course the result would have been around 43cc which would have been even better powerwise. They may yet do exactly that, come to think of it.
As far as higher rpm, I'm not too sure. The highest revving engine is the SAP 30cc which spools up to around 9K with a 16x12. I am making it work in my Temptress but isn't the ideal set-up. I think it would be better to run around 7K with a larger prop instead of 8K with a smaller one. I really like the modified DLE55 I'm currently playing with in a 13 pound Extra, turning a 20x12 3 blade Mejlik at just under 7K. Not really enough prop but I'm still breaking the thing in

Do you think there is a big difference in performance between the two engines? The 33 is listed at 4.2 hp while the 38 is listed at 4.7.
I'm waiting on the 38 to be in stock again, but the 33 looks appealing.

Just got initial test runs on the new OS33GT on pipe. I have details in the Pattern forum if any one is interested. After about 1/2 hour of running I can see it's going to be a winner for my application (Pattern). Hard to believe it turned a 20x10 ZDZ 2 blade prop at about 7800. My tach must be broken. My ZDZ40 F3A didn't even come close...that is a very expensive paperweight
The OS has a 36 mm bore and 32.7mm stroke or a ratio of Bore /Stroke of around 1.1. DLE30 and SAP 30 both have Bore to Stroke of 1.2. Compare to the Mintor 38 with a ratio of almost 2. Or the 33 with a ratio of about 1.4 if I recall. Hi revving also requires proper porting and I'm sure the Magli brothers know that. I hope the 38 and 33 are as strong as advertised and haul good size lumber. Some one needs to do the work on it as I am doing for the OS

at out field here in Italy we have plenty of Mintors running great!
I'm planning to fit two 38cc on the Beech D18 I'm building from Ziroli plans.
BTW, from a high quality engine such as these, I would expect a better electronic ignition rather than a cheap chinese unit...
In case I get these from the factory (2 hours by car from wher I live), I'll be glad to report you my visit.
I'll kee you posted...

BUT something happened to the engine after that. Became almost impossible to hand start; once started using a starter, it ran very poorly, lean, making no power. It looks like the carb and reed block are at fault. Trying to figure out what happened by changing one thing at a time. I'm fitting a different, well used and well understood carb from another 30 cc engine to see if that brings the engine back to life. Right now I am extremely disappointed in the OS performance
