EME55 with DLE55 Crank Video
EME55 was purchased from a customer that expirianced the broken crank syndrome. I replaced the crank with a DLE55 crank and, I did notice the EME crank being of second quality. The rod is a DLE with the brand name grinded off. The prop was a 23x8Xoar. The timming needed to be adjusted for better performance. I did not have a tachometer available but, after re-timming the EME,it sounded much better. I would say 6700 RPM's. The EME crank is garbage. It should proove it self after 10hrs of run time, we will see.

It's not as bad as you think. the video makes it look very scary. We have used that piece if plywood to test many engines. The good thing about the flex is that it's not a rigid set up and, it's safe on the stand off's. We would definetly go with a thicker piece of ply if we run anything bigger that a 50cc. The timming is a big issue. It needs to be checked on all EME's. 20 degress is not good. The engine woke up after the 28 degree timming was put in place.

Not to harp on you but the only real thing that worried me was who ever was doing the camera work was standing right in line with the prop. I only say this because I have had a prop come off before. Good thing I was standing behind it.

How much was the DLE crank? would it not work out cheaper (or at least much closer in price and certainly more reliable) to just have gone with a DLE to begin with?

Just watched the videa. For the next engine experiment I've got a couple of eggs of Silly Putty you can mold into a new motor mount. Be about as safe as what was used in the vid.
Pryor, you really should get rid of that piece of wood and using something with a bit more rigidity. What you have is going to hurt someone real bad someday.

Yes! you guys are abo****ely correct about the mount but like I said before, many engines have been tested on it and, I agree that it needs to be changed. The engine cost from SDS Hobby is $269.00 + shipping and, like I also said before, I bought it from someone that had the bad crank issue and, I made him an offer for it and, he accepted. The price is no where near the $269 and, a brand new DLE crank is only $43 shipped from Advantage Hobby. The engine was purschased for experimental purposes only. I did not care if it exploded while testing. I have a 30% Edge that has a DLE55 in it now. I will put the EME55 in it to see how it performs in the air. I was just curious to know if the DLE crank would cure the problem. It's only the begining of the test.
