Why has my gas engine started sounding like a diesel engine?
When idling in drive and reverse, my gas engine has started sounding like an idling diesel engine. It sounds like a normal gas engine while in park and while actually driving.
A few months ago the manifold cracked and coolant got into the engine. A few days after I got it back from the mechanic, one of the lifters got stuck, but that was repaired quickly.
Could this diesel sound in idle have anything to do with either/both of those events? Is it something that needs major/immediate attention?

It seems to be a four-stroke cooled by water.
What size and application?
It could be some wear that started developing in the bearing of the head of the connecting rod.
If so, the noise will grow up with more operation time.
Until then, it may be silenced or less intense when the engine is under load.
