Default DLE 30 cyl replacement

Hello,
I have broken a few cooling fins on my DLE 30 Head (landing gear broken off and...'[>:]',). Replacing it means replacing the cylinder. The engine is barely broken-in, is it safe not to replace the piston too?
Please state your experiences in this case, if any...otherwise I shall let you all know how this situation evolves.

if you have another 15 or bucks to spare, you can get a new piston and ring for about 15 dollars, if not then just get a new ring http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...e+30&search=Go

Since you have to buy a ring anyway, better to buy a Frank Bowman ring. Much faster break in, better seal, more power.

A few broken fins, if that's all that's broken, never hurt anything. Just use it like it is

+1 Run it til it seems to overheat then order parts. It might run for years. Also baffling can make up for the lost fins.

On a near new engine it would have hurt my pride more than the engine, I can see wanting to replace the cylinder on a pretty, new airplane. No need for a new piston, just the ring. There is good advise from Aviator if it isn't too hard to get one to Italy.

I totally agree on this point. The fins are pretty soft and break easily. If the engine continues to run well, no need to do anything.

Use some JB weld...and stick em back on! May look good again...if done carefully!

I have heard a lot about those Bowman ring's. Would like to give them a try. Googled him and can't find a link. Anyone willing to offer up how I can get with him?

when replacing a cylinder be sure to do a thrust alignment.
