I did get a telemetry tach installed and promised an unloaded flight number. With the APC 14x4 funfly prop, I'm showing slightly better than 9k static and slightly more than 10k in the air on the flats.

One issue I've not seen commented on and don't know yet what to think. I've now sixteen flights and have noted that the HS needle has needed backed out almost incrementally a click or two each outing for the last several. I've never owned an ABC engine and don't know if that is typical of break in. Along with that change is the great reduction in the black goo that has been noted. There has been no performance decrease. The engine is now easy enough to hand start that I'm no longer using a starter.
I noticed that as my engine broke in, I was able to lean out the HS needle almost ½ turn. It started out from the factory settings about 2 turns out and it’s now about 1 ½ turns out. It leaned out as it got more flight time on it and the “black goo†residue reduced substantially. I also noticed that the HS needle was very sensitive to adjustments. One click was a little lean and another click the opposite direction was almost too rich. A fellow EVO 10cc flier at my field filed the end of his HS needle to a more tapered point. (Chucked it in a drill and used a wet stone to file it to a tapered shape.) This gave him a 2-3 click adjustment range to tweak his mixture settings. I figured what the heck and did the same. I have to admit, it works!

It is not a good idea to place anybody's ignition module adjacent to a receiver or to have any servo leads adjacent to the high tension spark plug lead. If you can arrange it in the fuselage that the ignition unit is more rearward while still maintaining the rules in the first sentence everything should work fine. Have a friend hold the airplane while it is running and do a good range check at idle and full throttle, from all aspects (right, left, front and back) of the airplane before your first flight. If there is any indication of loss of range shut everything down and reposition the equipment until the problem disappears.

Has anyone figured out how many pounds of thrust this little gasser is pulling?

These are all static thrust numbers from Pe Reivers latest chart.

10 x 6 @ 13,900 = 5.8 lbs
11 x 6 @ 11,800 = 5.9 lbs
12 x 6 @ 10,500 = 6.2 lbs
13 x 6 @ 9,800 = 7.2 lbs
13 x 8 @ 8,500 = 6.4 lbs

No, for the size of an airplane meant to run with this engine any servo with plastic gear (+ 40 oz-in) will do the job (i.e spectrum A6060, Futaba 3004, etc)

well guys finally bit the bullet and ordred two of these for my black horse aero cammnder strike.should be here in a week or two. I still need to find a inverted pitts muffler that will work with these engines, so ifanyone has used a pitts muffler please let me knowthe results. also going by the reveiews on this engine its a little messy while breaking in.would it be worth me using a cheap plane to break these engines in on instead of using the aerocommader

I'd say yes, it would be worth the effort to break them in on a single engine plane. The engine is most happy with a very close HS needle adjustment. Though the engine is quite tolerant of a little lean or rich without dead sticking, it will four stroke too much if slightly rich and will sag on vertical lines if slightly lean so it is most happy when the HS needle is nailed.

I'm not saying that it is hard to do, but for me it requires holding the plane vertical to check for sag. On a twin install, that might mean adjusting one engine, shutting it down and then the other and then restarting the first. Also, the HS needle has needed tweaking anew each flying session.

I do believe the engine is a good choice for twins because of its resistance to flame out with an imperfect mixture setting.

Pete or Jimmy can correct me if i'm wrong ,but the BIS04046  PITTS MUFFLER fits the 10 cc .I have the pitts on the os 46fx and i checked it with a evo trainer 45 and looked to match..its the same part number..go to horizon hobby and look at the engine on sight and look at parts for it and there is section you click on after you get on parts page on the left side..i think it says extra parts or all parts ..check that out..i want to put one on mine also.....

Josephcraig,

Yes you are correct - That Bisson muffler fits the 10GX.

Metal gears are not necessary for big gassers, but the Karbonite gears should be avoided. They are to brittle to handle the pulses of large gas engines. The Nylon gears hold up just fine. Of course metal gears are fine as well, but not required.
I am sure as far as this engine goes, any of them are fine.
